Hi,:)
Could you be so kind as to advise me on the value of my fancy diamond? Every jeweler told me something different. I really need a neutral opinion on the diamond.

Natural diamond

Fancy colour: Green

Intensity: Fancy Intense (but maybe fancy vivid)

Overtone: Blue or Bluish (on certificate it’s just blue green with no differentiation)

Shape: Princess

Weight: 0.16 Ct.

Clarity: VVS 1 (could be IF)

I would really appreciate some honest advice.

pictures will probably be necessary to evaluate cut, color, etc.

* Princess

What lab graded it and what is stated on the report about this diamond's color, intensity, and clarity? I've never seen a lab grading report state "maybe fancy vivid", "could be IF", or "Blue-Green but could be Blue or Bluish".

And I agree 100% with MissGotRocks - take this diamond to a certified/graduate gemological *appraiser*, not a jeweler, to get an accurate valuation based on its characteristics and current market trends and conditions.

Or send it to GIA to actually be graded so you know what you really have. Small changes in color grades can make big differences.

And when you ask for the "value," what are you looking for? What can you sell the stone for as a private person? Or what would it cost to replace the stone (buy it retail)?

You need to take the diamond to an appraiser - not a jeweler.

thanks for the answer but the problem is that where I live there is no appraiser for fancy diamonds... funny but true...

Thank you for your answer, there is no fancy diamond appraiser or GIA in Prague. I need a starting point regarding the price. I would like to sell it as a private individual (diamond from a wedding ring purchased in the US 10 years ago).

You might have to ship it to GIA. You might never get a fair evaluation without their grading report. Unfortunately, no one here sight unseen could really give you a fair market analysis.

HI:

Check out GGL and SSEF.

cheers--Sharon

And which GIA report should I choose... GIA has three. The first one is probably the best
COLORED DIAMOND GRADING REPORT
COLORED DIAMOND ORIGIN REPORT
COLORED DIAMOND IDENTIFICATION AND ORIGIN REPORT

Grading report is the most important. I personally wouldn't pay for an origin report UNLESS I wanted to show it was from a specific location (e.g. argyle or something)

You need to research the diamond market where you live. There are European grading labs closer to home that you can use. You don’t need to ship your diamond half way around the world.

What about trying HRD in Antwerp? that would be easiest I would think?

Hi!
I think I can get you a bit closer to reality here.
Naturally occurring Green diamonds are incredibly rare. The green is caused by radiation in the earth, during the formation of the diamond.
But it’s also possible for humans to irradiate diamonds.
For this reason GIA has developed procedures to determine if it’s a natural or man-made radiation.
The rough diamond must be submitted before polishing so that GIA can confirm the radiation was natural.
Plus, the color of the stone in the pictures is nothing like what a natural green diamond would look like.
Of course, I can’t make any definitive appraisal without holding the Diamond, but based on the fact, I’ve given you, I don’t think it’s worth sending the stone to GIA.
If the stone is what it looks like in the photos, it’s not going to have a very high value. Sorry

Technical and sceptical answers are the most valuable in this question... so first of all if everything is natural... then to GIA))

One issue here is that it could be a nateual diamond that's been treated for color. A diamond tester won't "see" that.

It also could be lab grown, which will similarly test as diamond on a tester bc the composition is the same

I guess I didn't express myself exactly, by "all natural" I mean everything else that isn't millions of years old (without cutting)))) so find someone who can recognize everything artificial and then GIA))) Honestly, if no one really believes that it would be "all natural green", I rate it based on the likes under the post and it's such an extremely rare color of the stone, what would the price be for such a small stone (0.16ct.)? thanks

The chances of it being all natural green are almost 0

I’ve seen plenty of natural green diamonds. I’ve seen lovely green diamonds that looked natural to some of the savviest diamond people get the dreaded “ undetermined “ on the GIA report referring to the origin of color.
None of the natural or undetermined stones claiming to be natural looked anything like the pictures you posted. I’ve also seen plenty of a radiated green diamonds… They look like the picture you posted.
The point is, no one other than the GIA‘s opinion counts on something like this, but my seasoned eyes tell me that you’re looking at an irradiated stone. Sorry, but I hope this helps.

This is a really eye-opening comment (really) but it was purchased as 'without artificial intervention' and indeed the purchase price corresponded to ''all natural''.

first understand it exactly... then maybe you count everything for money ... you see and judge everything according to yourself?!?!))) how did you find out that I count money per like?

Rockdiamond posts... which clearly say that it's not real fancy. I count the likes supporting it.....if it's a professional forum then likes are counted because professionalism will probably prevail... at least in my industry.

Please save me from going through the entire thread and remind me of the price you paid.
I’m very curious as to how the “price corresponds”

As a consumer I would not pay much for a green diamond without a GIA certificate that says natural color. And even GIA has been wrong in the past. Loosegrowndiamond has a 0.22 ct green lab diamond for $137 so a consumer might arguably pay $80 for a 0.16 non-GIA certified green diamond. Assuming you could prove it was a natural diamond but did not have a GIA cert for the color… I couldn’t find a consumer-facing comparison for irradiated natural diamonds that small. Blue Nile has 0.23 natural colorless for $270 but that is GIA certified; take away the GIA certification, nuke it til it’s green, reduce the weight to 0.16… I don’t know but a consumer probably would pay less than $270. Trade people would pay even less for either lab or natural.

If you like it, keep it and wear it. Nothing wrong with lab grown and/or irradiated. If you are trying to sell it, get it GIA certified… based on photos it might not be worth the cost of certification, but if you are absolutely convinced it is a natural diamond with natural color, that is what you have to do.
