Hi all,

New here, great advise and friendly people.

I''m looking to buy a diamond this coming July. I''m looking for a just below 1.5ct, E/F colour and of course the best CUT I can get. I have been recommended that Hong Kong is good for the above, although at first they will try to sell the not so good cut, like most places.

Any advice on New York, Hong Kong and Cape Town?

I live in the UK, I will possibly be visiting all three, at least one for definite, hence my asking on the countries.

Many thanks for reading

New York - Go to Mark at Engagement Rings Direct or Good Old Gold.

As a fellow Brit I say - look at that exchange rate!

Just remember, get the diamond set by whoever you buy it from - even if it's in a cheap temporary setting. It is impossible to get loose stone cover in the UK (or at least I haven't found anyone who will cover - and I looked!).

If it's in a temporary setting you can insure and then you are covered for a re-set.

Most people assume that a jeweller will take responsibility if a diamond or other stone breaks or chips during setting. Not so, unless they supply the stone, it is YOUR responsibility to provide cover.

I believe it's about 1% of stones that have problems - mainly pears, princess cuts and stones with very thin girdles. I like peace of mind personally...
