Hi I have been lurking here a lot since my husband decided to get me a 5-stone eternity ring for our wedding anniversary. I learned so much about diamonds (wish I had known all this 10 years ago...), so thanks to all of you!

I have just ordered a ring from BGD, but I must decide the ring size now. I googled a lot but am more confused with various conversion charts. So I thought I might ask for help from my fellow aussies here.

The ring is for my ring finger on my ring hand. I have had the finger measured by various jewellers in Sydney and I believe M1/2 is the best size. However different charts tell me different things. I bought a cheap ring yesterday, drew on the paper and measured the inside diameter, but the figure didn't match what M1/2 was supposed to be!

So if any of you have ordered ring from BGD (I was told they had loads of aussie customers), can you please help? Any tip would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Jasmine! Congratulations on your wedding anniversary and on your upcoming present! It sounds beautiful!

I too was confused with the size conversions. I went to Tiffany's who use the US sizing and got sized up there before we made our order with WF. Also, I noticed that Anthony's Jewellers carry both Aus and US sizing rings (probably because they are dealing with Hearts on Fire).

So my suggestion would be go to Tiffany's or Anthony's if you have them locally and that should take the guess work out of any conversions. Otherwise, you most likely are 6 1/4 (from checking the online size conversion charts). You might have to risk it and resize if it does not fit properly when you get it. Let us know with your progress and good luck!

Just a note on Tiffany: maybe I just have weird fingers, but I find Tiffany sizing smaller than others.

Thank you guys so much!

I only read about "sending a cheap ring to jeweller" idea about two days ago and I did buy the cheap ring yesterday. But I just don't think there is enough time for that. Also in the last one day, I notied the cheap ring can be a bit loose certain time of the day and I actually prefer my new ring to be a bit tight so I don't risk losing it.

Tiffany's is my other idea too. I did go there early this year and tried a few eternity rings. I sort of remember 6.5 was a bit tight and 7 was a bit big. They didn't have 6.75. However I'm not 100% certain now... It was our summer at that time and fingers would be a bit bigger? So I guess I am a 6.5? I really want the ring to be perfect and I don't want it resized before I can enjoy it. So seems like I am heading to Tiffany's tomorrow!

I will update you guys when I have news. :)

jasmine, give the internal dia measurement along with the width and height of the cheap ring to BGD-much more accurate and simple method than using inconsistent conversion charts-can you please list the dia measurement here? That said, from my own research the quoted size seems correct (6.25 to 6.5).

Okay I went to Tiffany's today. I tried eternity rings and 6.5 fitted comfortably, still a bit room in case I put on weight but not big enough to lose the ring. Glad I made the trip because intially I was going to order 6.75.

Therefore the Bluenile chart seems pretty accurate!

Thank you all guys!

jasmine, did you happen to check what the T&Co 6.5 equated to in terms of internal diameter in mm?
I'm sorry to be all cautious, but there is no guarantee BGD 6.5 will be the same as a T&Co 6.5, kwim?

That said, I measured my ring size and decided the best conversion to US was 5.75 - I have two rings from BGD made in a 5.75, and they both fit perfectly and match what the charts say as far as dia., so hopefully yours will be just fine too.

Congrats on your upcoming eternity - BG make really nice 5 stones, I'm sure you'll love it.
btw, being your Aussie I always like to check, have you read the thread on Australia-US Free Trade Agreements and importing jewellery?
If not, here's the link
Its a worthwhile read as it will save you 5% import tax duty when your ring arrives from the US..pretty long and detailed, so please feel free to ask if you need any help ::)

Oops, I didn't check at all. I dragged my husband to go with me today and we just "pretended" we were shopping for an eternity ring. I didn't want to tell the nice sales person that I just wanted to check the size.

Glad you have two rings from BGD and you like them. I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Thanks to your post regarding the customs... I certainly have read it in detail early this year when I discovered this forum and started researching for my ring. You are very sweet to share your knowledge and experience. I believe I will need your help and tips again in the future. Just to answer your question, there won't be tax and customs issues for me because my husband and I are going to US next month for a holiday (anniversary present for each other) and we will pick up the ring there. :) I'm looking forward to it.

Above is a reference chart I have posted for several years.

Thank you so much! I did find this chart by searching on this forum. It's one of the several charts that I had printed and studied over and over...

Glad this chart is pretty accurate. Will keep it for future reference.
