I am seriously thinking of upgrding my stone. G 2.37 SI1 to a 3.0 E/F VS2. Is it true that if I de I should get a better clarity grade. Also any info on what the price would be. Currently I have AGS 0 stone.
A VS2 is a higher clarity grade than SI1. Whereas some SI1 stones may have visible inclusions, it's highly unlikely that a VS2 stone will have any visible inclusions. I'm not sure about the price, but a quick search on PS of 1A cut rounds shows prices ranging from $45000-49000.
I would not jump to conclusions about the "tint" of the G color grade. It is far too likely that it is some detail of the cut (lots of contrast, for example) and the lighting that makes the stone show some color, not it's own shade of colorless-ness. If you do not feal confortable with the prchase may not help either - if this is the case...
For once, the AGS0 proportions would not ward off all conceivable detractions in the cut department.
Light? No idea how you may check to see if the ligting which does show your ring "yellow" is actually yellow itself since the tint would be far more obvious aided by a prism (the diamond) than any other way. I would say that the color would show as flashes of light rather than an overall tint of the stone - but this would be impossible to see with the stone mounted.
Anyway, since the complaint is about color, how about the clarity grade? Is there something clearly wrong with the SI? If not, and you do need soem lab's seal of approval for the color grade, why not D-SI?
Thanks guys. I cleaned my stone yesterday and I do not see as much color. Track really brings it out I guess. I do not see inclusions in my ring unless I bring it up to my eye and look for them. I think I want to upgrade to a bigger size so now was the time to go up in color and clarity as well.
However, I think my fiance paid like 16,000-20,000 (ideal cut g si1) I did not realize the jump would be so steep!
