Update on my inlaws and their house offer situation

Quick recap: Potential buyers made crazy offer and basically refused to negotiate. They walked. My inlaws said fine.

This was a week ago. Fast forward to yesterday. THEY CAME BACK. Apparently they have to be out of wherever they are living by the end of October and I guess in looking at other properties, they've either decided they still like my inlaws place best or they've finally realized you do have to negotiate. Not everyone is deperate enough to take whatever crazy, lowball offer you throw out there. Their new offer is still a little bit under what my inlaws final offer was, but they've decided it's better to take a little bit less and have it under contract than to refuse it and wait for another offer.

I'm really not surprised the buyers came back- and I'm happy for my inlaws to have an end to selling a house!

So are they still asking for the TV, etc? I'm not surprised they came back. What ridiculous items to make-or-break a house offer! They hopefully realized that.

I'm glad things worked out for them! Selling a home is so stressful, continued good wishes that everything goes smoothly for them.

That's great news - glad the buyers came to their senses!

That is very smart IMHO, good for them. Thanks for the update and I'm glad it worked out for your IL's.

This is great news, April! I'm glad to hear the buyers came back.

So are they selling all those goods with the house?

They included a bill of sale in their offer for the office furniture, kitchen island, the dresser in the guest room, all her curtains, oh and the TV! My inlaws didn't even return the bill of sale. They're going to leave the office furniture and the island, but no go on everything else. Given how far they've come down in price and how much it would cost them personally to replace all those items, given the need them for the next house, there's just no way they're parting with them.

The buyers have ten days to back out of the sale at this point- hopefully this will all work out.

You know, when we put an offer on the house, it did come with most appliances - we never would have dreamed to ask for the curtains, the office furniture etc... Come on, people that move out, need some things to have wherever they are moving INTO. I think a lot of the times, buyers feel that since the market is bad, they can go ahead and request the most unimaginable things - forgetting that the market is bad mostly for the people that are selling at the moment. Most people are losing money on their houses ( looking at the amount of short sales out there ), it is somewhat ungrateful for people to request for things that normally wouldn't come with the house. Of course, if the windows are odd shapes ( really tall with rounded edges etc ) and there are custom made curtains made for the windows, I would assume that they would stay etc. Common sense is hard to come by these days...

Glad it worked out for your folks!

Congrats to your in-laws!!!

I'm with you on that! My inlaws listing agent said she's really tired of the "Walmart" mentality so many buyers seem to have today and cannot wait for it to be gone!

My inlaws started doing some packing today. This mostly consisted of my FIL grumbling and doing it anyway while drinking a beer and my MIL giving direction. :cheeky:
