Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and thought I would try to get some feedback from the experts.

My bf and I are currently looking at engagement rings and I really like the 2-prong or half bezel settings I have seen. We looked at the DeBeers "Forever Two" and the Movado Solitaire diamond. Then I found out that the Movado ring uses a 114-facets diamond and I am simply not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

I have heard some folks say that it may sparkle less or sparkle over shorter distances. Also are these quality diamonds or is this truly just a fad?

Thank you for your thoughts!

I''m not a diamond expert so I cant comment on if more facets is a good thing or not. Hopefully the experts can weigh in on this. I have looked at various sites on the different kind of facets out there, such as on goodoldgold, and I think it comes down to a personal choice. I actually like the standard RB diamond with the regular 57 facets (58 if theres a culet). I saw the ones that come as 81 facets and it seems way too busy for me. I think it also depends on what size you are getting. I think that you should take it in different lighting conditions to get a sense of what you are hoping to get out of it.

if you post the size you are looking at Im sure the experts can weigh in on this.

It's really up to the individual taste, whether they can appreciate the additional fire and sparkle that those higher facet counts tend to bring. Some like that type of performance, other may find it too "busy".

I've compared standard RB ideal cuts to the solasfera and eighternity. They are beautiful diamonds but in the end, i chose the standard RB.

Two weeks ago, I saw the movado and was interested in the 114 cuts, but I would hardly say that it outperformed the ideal cuts that we favor so much on PS. Though, out of all the mall stores and their proprietary cuts that I have seen, movado rates pretty high. The worst one I saw was at a Kay's or something along those lines and it was obvious that the extra facets were not well cut.

If possible, try finding a local jeweler who has a couple of these in stock (well, except for the movado). Take your time and compare.

Thank you very much for the feedback!

I think it does come down to the personal preference. We will have to shop around and try to -see- how the two diamond types differ by just looking at them.

Thanks again!
