A couple of day ago I bought a ring with a real nice diamond. It is not a big rock, about 0.33-0.35ct
I think the color is G/H, clarity VVS/VS with an excellent cut.

The band contains a certificate stamp. So I think there need to be a certificate somewhere.
Stamp "ny 0002771"

Does anyone identify this stamp?

A certificate number for a diamond wouldn''t be engraved on a band. The engraved number on the band is probably the band''s model number.

You are probably correct. Today there will be laser inscription.

But lets say the ring w/ diamond is 10 years old. Is there a laboratory that uses similar codes?

As swingirl said, the diamond labs engrave their numbers on the girdle of the stone, not on the band. That will have been put there by the jewelry manufacturer. It may be a serial number, a part number for the shank or something else entirely. Bear in mind that people move diamonds from one ring to another fairly frequently and if it''s an older piece it may not even be the original stone. Call up the jeweler where you got it and ask them what it means.

No, that’s not the format for any of the major labs.

do all labs today engrave all stones with numbers today? What kind of equipment would be needed to read the number?

Probably you can''t see anything with the naked eye but a 10x loupe will be suitable for viewing laser inscription.

10x loupe?! I can''t see mine with a 10x loupe, you guys must have really good eyesight! I also have 20x and 30x but still have trouble, I can make out something engraved, but I have no way of reading the numbers or even making out the A Cut Above logo?!

Lol, honey! I can''t read mine with a 10x loop, eithger, unless I squint really hard!!!

nd to the OP, no, not all diamonds have a laser inscription.

Make sure the diamond is clean and be aware that the inscription can be hidden under a prong. 10x is suitable but 30x is better ;-)
