Spotted this the other day & thought it would be fun to revive the old thread on the more unusual items posted for sale on eBay and the like.

Anyone know if there is any kind of historical reference for this design? Kind of looks like a buttercup without a stone on top. It's like an extra-terrestrial tractor beam ring

It looks like a semi-mount to me.
I don't believe it was meant to be worn this way, it needs a stone.
The jeweler would use small burrs to create notches for a stone mounted in the center.
