Hi Psers,

I''ve read the threads and all the raving reviews on the shaper image ultrasonic. Now that it is unavailable (I can''t even find it online since the stores are nonexistent), has anyone else found a reliable and inexpensive ultrasonic machine?

There is one at Brookstone.
http://www.brookstone.com/store/product.asp?product_code=572545&search_type=search&search_words=ultrasonic%20&prodtemp=t2&cm_re=Result*R1C2*T

Has anyone used that product specifically? It says that water is just fine, but would it be more worthwhile to add ammonium or the receipt solutions that the other threads recommended?

Thanks for the help!

Never used that one but it looks just like the Gemoro one that people like. And only use ammonia if you have platinum, it''ll wear the rhodium off WG.

Is there a link on the Gemoro that people liked? I googled it but there are so many options. The cheapest one and the one that looks like it is for at home use was around $134. Does that seem like the one you were referring to? If so, what is due to the large price difference.

Thanks!

Looks similar to this, $39.

I have the Brookstone US cleaner. I like it a lot, and does a good job. As far as a cleaning solution goes, I use a mixture of warm water and Mr. Clean. Once the US is done, I brush with a soft toothbrush, rinse and VOILA! Sparkly jewelry!!

Do you think the Brookstone one actually works better than just scrubbing with your brush and the ammonium mixture? Thanks!

Ultrasonic cleaning will always get more dirt and grime from around settings than simply washing with ammonia and detergent. They are simply fabulous!!!! Whenever my friends come over they always get out their rings and get them a good clean. It''s a source of entertainment for many a guest at my place.

FYI - you can use ammonia on yellow gold too, just not white gold due to the rhodium plating

Dancing Fire,

You make a valid point and I thought about that same reasoning myself. I just was not sure how to compare my need to have a clean stone to others on this site who own a loupe and inspect it regularly, which I don''t do. I want my diamond to be as clean as it is to when I get it from the jewelers but I just don''t think I have the keen eye like some other Psers have on there... so I went with the smaller Gemoro one. Hopefully it fits my need though. Thanks for the help though! I might get a nicer cleaner in the future if the one from Dave Atlas doesn''t work well enough.
