I have so many pairs of Uggs, I live in Mi and they''re all I wear in the winter. I say go for it, Ive never had any problems with mine. I do get a couple new pairs every year but I still wear my older ones. The Bailey Button Uggs are super cute.

My Uggs are all I wear in the snow here!
I''m in Chicago, it can get pretty nasty.
I bought a spray protectant when I bought the Uggs, I spray them at the beginning of every winter season and it''s worked thus far. I love my Uggs, they''re so comfy.

Thanks guys, I was going to ask about the protectant kit next... It''s $20 and has cleaner, repellent, a freshener, a brush and a stone...? Worth it?

I asked Fi what he thought of them and he said, "ew ugly..."

good thing I''ll be wearing them and not him!!

OKee dokee, I ordered them in the grey...

and the cleaning kit!

I think I'm going to get the Bailey Button in grey or chestnut, I just love those. I'm also going to get the Classic Tall in Navy. What do you think about their knit Uggs? I'm thinking about getting a pair..

ETA: Let me know what you think of the cleaning kit too.

No! Please don''t! My teenage cousin who lives in a very snowy part of Colorado liked to wear her uggs everywhere, to school, etc. One day coming home she slipped on a snowy/icy path, her foot twisted inside the ''shoe'' and she broke her foot. She is very promising competitive ice skater and ski racer, it''s healed but they were very worried about it ever being strong enough again to withstand a professional sporting career. This may not be an issue to you, but I am just trying to illustrate that along with having very little grip on the sole, the soles are flexible, and when they stretch a bit with wear, they provide no support at all to your feet. Not to mention they usually aren''t waterproof.

They were originally designed as indoor slippers, I have a pair but I would never, ever be caught dead in them outside the house. I don''t mean to judge, but I think they look incredibly trashy.

Well in the upper midwest, I know people could not care less about what''s on their feet, as long as they''re warm and dry. I see them on most everyone''s feet, and I certainly don''t think anyone looks trashy.

FWIW, I think they''re cute, and they definitely keep your feet warm if waterproofed correctly!

I wear mine in the snow, but I used the protection spray, and respray them every winter.

swedish, i love mine so much that I've been looking at the button bailey as a second pair! the only concern i have with the style is that if it's really slushy, snow might get into that side fold. I have the classic boot in tall, and it's PERFECT. The lambswool around your lower leg really keeps your feet toasty, like legwarmers. I only wear mine in snow and freezing temps, though I try to wear them mostly with fresh snow...I've had 'em for two years and they look almost new because I don't wear them in the dirty slush.

eta: burberry - I've never gone for the knit uggs, because the best part I think is the lambswool lining, and the knit ones lack that.

MishB, you are welcome to your opinion but I see tons of women wearing Uggs during the winter so they obviously love them.

I bought my first pair last year. They are so warm and cozy!

Perfect for snow! They will keep you nice, dry and toasty. I wore mine in NYC when it would snow.

I''m going to go out on a limb and say you do mean to judge, since what you said was very judgmental. Just go ahead and say that you don''t like them, but it''s unnecessary to say they look trashy.

Personally, I hate the way Uggs look, but man I love the way mine feel! If my toes are warm and toasty, the rest of my body usually follows suit. I''m currently on the hunt for the lined Topsiders so that I have warm shoes that I can wear to work. Yay for warm toes!

I love that style! I live in Chicago, and while they are good for normal snow, they aren''t so good when it is extremely wet/slushy snow and you''ll be traipsing through that for extended periods of time (even WITH the Ugg water repellent). Usually by the end of the winter, my suede Uggs are pretty beat up even with regular cleanings and reapplications of the water repellent. But they''re super cute, just try to baby them a bit if you expect them to stay looking nice and new!

I have never had issues with my uggs and I wear them alllll winter! I dig them grey buttons too!

All of New York City must be trashy then

I have a pair and do not wear them in snow. Even after waterproof spraying, water still seeps in and my feet become COLD! They haven''t gotten any water stains. Now, I just wear them on chilly days.

For snow, I bought a pair of snow boots.

I love my Uggs. I do. Can''t help it. Even if they are supposedly out of style and ugly.

I agree, they keep my feet warm during NYC winters and they are comfortable for walking. I buy a new pair every year because I wear them out each winter.

Mish: I don''t think you were being judgmental--you think Uggs are uggly, that''s cool. I think crocs are hideous, but all over the place people are wearing them...

I think the knit ones would be cute fall shoes. I tried on a pair and they feel like cozy thick socks :).

Why do you think they look incredibly trashy? I''m not trying to be mean, do they just not go with your sense of style?

I LOVE my Uggs. I didn''t like how they looked at first, but they are SO warm and so comfortable I wear them all winter! I''ve been wearing the same ones for around 4 years now (through snow and rain and slush) and they''re pretty worn out, but I had never sprayed them to begin with so I don''t know if that would have helped. My "new" ones I''ve had for 2 years and they''re in pretty good condition still, so I save those for the clear and cold days and I wear the worn out ones in the snow and bad weather. I would love another pair this year, but they keep raising their prices! Maybe a Hanukkah present.....

I love the ones you posted with the buttons!! So cute!

There''s a difference between your word choice and Mish''s word choice, though. Trashy goes beyond judging the shoe to judging the person - if a person wears something trashy, they are trashy by association (if I wear trashy clothes, nobody will say the clothes are trashy - they''ll say I''m trashy). If they wear something ugly, they just made an unfortunate wardrobe choice. I''m fully in the "Uggs are hideous" camp, but would never use a word that implied judgement onto the *wearer''s personality*, which is what "trashy" does.

Ahh good point! I never thought of that! I would like to get some chunky non cute sorels this year as well for THOSE kind of winter days, but I think these might be ok in lighter snow??

The reason I didn''t order the classic in tall, is because I have big calves
5.gif
I might go to a store to try them on first. (I ordered the bailey button online)

I think Uggs AND Crocs are ugly!

That said, if I lived where serious snow was, I'd probably go for a more snow-friendly boot. Floppy suede boots seem like a bad idea! If it has to be Uggs, I know they make some with thicker rubber bottoms and those seem a lot more snow-friendly than the ones with the flat soles.

If I needed snow boots (sadly I don''t!) I''d get these by Pajar:

When we lived in the mountains I wore my Uggs everywhere. I would have never thought ''trashy''. I think they can get wet though even with waterproofing.
I did wear them anyway, even shoveling snow!

I dont think Uggs are in the same league as Crocs!

I looove the feel of Uggs and how warm they are... but I''m 5'' 2" and wearing Uggs make me look like a tree stump
38.gif
I still haven''t given up hope, though, and keep trying out new models to see if any of them won''t make me look short and stubby. I think I''ll try the knitted ones this weekend.
