it''s going on 5am here and i''m running out of things to do (that naturally don''t require too much energy) so i propose a challenge to brides both past and present! your mission should you choose to accept it is to describe your wedding in two words. any two words that you feel best describe or fit the overall feel and/or design of your wedding and why.

and they can''t be simple OR elegant.

mine would be funky because of the more modern color scheme (maroon/burgundy, lime and black)and some of the design elements (no flowers, lots of feathers candles and branches) and retro (or old timey?) because of the venue (1920''s masonic temple), and the music we''re planning on playing (ragtime, big band/swing, early jazz). i know retro doesn''t usually refer to things that are going back that far, but, like i said it''s five am and my working vocab is somewhat limited.

so what about you?

Okay.

Bold. My colors and flower choices are bold. And Conflicted. My dress is vintagey current venue is modern spanish style (thought that could change any day now)... I keep thinking of it as semi-formal, but John wanted to wear a tux, so now there''s tuxes. We''re doing all sorts of music from heavy metal to blues to oldies. It''s all kind of a BOLD mess. Oh! I''ve got it!

HOT MESS. *snort* That''s my final answer. I hope to wrangle it in line soon though.

haha gypsy that''s awesome!

mine were originally "modern" and "retro" but then it really would have just been "schizophrenic". nothing wrong with a little contradiction! aren''t we all full of them anyways?

I have NO clue why I am up so late but thanks for posting and giving me something to do!

I would describe mine as *classy* yet *quirky*.

Quirky because we are doing croquet (who plays croquet in Texas?!) and we have some fun touches like FI and his groomsmen have "critter" ties from Jcrew. Technically they have golf balls and tees on them but they are still called "critter ties". And I''m wearing green heels... which no one seems to approve of

Mine would be fun as that''s what I see our wedding being. From getting ready in the morning, to seeing D at the church to the big celebrations after, I can just see myself smiling and having a great day so fun is what comes to my mind. I don''t mind who comes, who D''s parents want, who my parents want there, I just want everyone that is invited to have a great time. "Very us" would be the other way that I''d describe our wedding. D and I have picked everything we wanted, from our castle as the venue, to the gospel choir at the church and the swing band that evening. It''s just all us.

haha! that definitely is quirky! and AWESOME

bee- i'm glad your wedding is exactly what you two want it to be! :D

natural and vintage

Natural - it was a garden wedding, and I wanted my flowers to look like they were plucked right up from the garden (daisies, larkspur, dagwood.. they were so pretty). For our ceremony, had really minimal decor. My dress and my bridesmaids'' were all tealength and flowy - nothing was stiff. While there was a bit of formality, nothing about our wedding was stiff.

Vintage - I feel like my wedding was really throw-back - I can''t use the word "simple" but honestly, all the details were very simple, classic...I think that''s what gave the wedding such a vintage feel. My cake was plain white buttercream with grosgrain ribbon trim, my dress, because it was tea-length seemed to have a bit of a 40''-50''s look to it, we did a lot with bows (my inspiration was Audrey Hepburn at the end of Funny Face - my favorite movie of all time).

I''m still really early in the process of planning, but I''ll give it a shot!

Okay, I''m going to go with "natural" and "sophisticated". They are somewhat conflicting, but I think that represents us well.

I contemplated "earthy" and "organic" before settling on natural. Our wedding is going to be on the beach in NJ. We are both really low maintenance/natural people. No makeup, no hair product, no salons, etc. I''ll get my hair and makeup done for the wedding, but it is going to be very natural. Our centerpieces are going to be something along the lines of glass bowls with water, sand, shells and floating candles or orchids. I want to bring as much nature inside as I can.

The sophisticated side is more representative of my parents and my life before I moved across the country and met FI. We are having a full dinner reception with a multi-course meal and a premium open bar. It is an evening affair and people will be dressed in at least semi-formal clothes. Things will be a bit fancy. Especially for most of FI''s family from the midwest whom I''ve been told haven''t attended a wedding like the one we are planning.

This was actually very helpful for me to get back on the planning bandwagon and thinking about what I want our wedding to be. I''m going to ask FI to pick two words to describe the wedding he wants so we can see if we are on the same page. Thanks for the idea!!

It took me a while to figure this one out.

Rustic - Outside reception and ceremony in November. We chose the date based on the colors that were coming in at the same time last year so hopefullly there will be tons of color. Using few flowers and more candles.

Southern - FI, our families, and myself - we are all very southern. It is Alabama after all. I suppose that there is no other way to explain that. It''s an experience.

Hmmm..I am going to go with "Floral" because the outdoor ceremony will be in a garden full of roses, the indoor reception well..there''s lots of roses there, too. It''s a very floral kind of place, which I love as corny as it is. Lots of pinks, greens, etc.

Second word..hmmmm...."Pastel" I am really feeling the pastels!! Instead of having strict wedding colors I think I am going to go with pastels.

pastels. I like pink, green, yellow, blue, lavender, silver, etc. I know silver isn''t a pastel, but I''m making it one.

baroque and offbeat.
Baroque is FI and my favorite period. Since we are in the US, the venue is actually victorian, but I am trying to add baroque style sleeves to my gown, a baroque hairstyle, and we wiil be playing baroque music like Vivaldi and Bach for the whole thing.

Offbeat. My MOH is my gay best friend, my ringbearer is my pierced, longhaired, shaggy brother, one BM will be dying her hair to match the dress, our ceromony will be humorous, my dress is green and I won''t have a veil, there will be no official dances. There are more but I can''t think of them at the moment.

"Expensive" and "big." That was how my FI just described our wedding when I asked him to play. I don't think it will be expensive, or at least any mroe expensive than your average wedding. My FI chose big because we originally had 80 people on our list. It's now grown to more than double that. So far, only one couple can't make it out of the several reply cards we've gotten back already.

I'll agree with the word "big" I suppose. I guess my other word would be "natural." We're getting married at a restaurant but it's also a registered bird sanctuary. The grounds are really pretty, and there are bird houses all around. There's a small pond there, and the place is tucked back from the road, near the woods.

ETA: I forgot to add, there are a few small gardens at the venue, and it's beautiful when everything is in bloom.

warm and informal.

I think mine would be "warm" and "glam". I kind of feel like the decor is quite glam - we are doing kind of a deco vibe, with peacock feathers as centerpieces and as accents in the bridesmaids'' bouquets. Our colors are peacock blue, gold, lime green and deep red. My dress is ivory.

I say "warm", just because there will be so many family and friends there, and I just see it as being a very warm, friendly, fun time surrounded by everyone that we love.
