Hey guys, Ive narrowed my exhaustive search down to two princess cut stones. Cut and colour are most important to me, with that being said, its hard for me to tell if I should give up a color grade (E to F) for upgraded polish and symmetry, also the E stone has an extra facet... Check out the specs of the two below! Both are GIA and both are comparably priced. Please let me know which to go with I cant figure it out!:)

Timber, you indicate cut and color are the most important aspects to you (and you listed them in that order). Color is obviously no problem on either, but nobody is going to be able to tell you much about the cut quality on GIA princess without seeing additional analysis such as ASET. If you are seriously interested in top cut quality, look for an AGS Ideal princess.

Be aware that stone #2 has a thin girdle. This can present be a durability issue for princess. The extra facets may in fact be an indication of prior issues.

Sorry no pics. Which is a good point as to why maybe I should be looking at AGS ideals. Out of these two I think I should go with Diamond number 1. I was relying on the fact that the symmetry and polish are excellent as an indicator of great cut, as well as having it looked once I get it.

So should I just look at AGS ideals

Yes, you really should if cut quality and light performance are the priority for you. The GIA has chosen not to grade overall cut quality on princess. Therefore, in the absence of additional analysis Ex Ex pol and symmetry on a GIA princess tell you nothing about fire, brilliance and scintillation.

Have you seen these stones in person? Like TL said, you cant buy princess cuts by the numbers. You need pictures and
Aset images if possible. If you cant get either of those two then AGS000 would be your next best bet but it still wont tell you everything.

Why cant you shop somewhere that has images? We can help you pick out a nice one.

Cut quality to return light and display a beautiful faceting pattern should be your top priority. A well cut H/VS stone will be much
nicer than a poorly cut D/VVS stone. You cant tell much about cut and light return without seeing pictures (or getting an AGS000
stone.)

Thanks tyty, I guess I gravitated to other sites because the prices were better w better specs but sounds like thats not the route to take. Also there seems to be a lot more GIA stones than AGS out there.

I will search through the sites you suggested and see what I can find. Im looking in the price range of 7-8k, 1.2 to 1.26ct, F, VS1, ratio under 1.04. Above all though yes I want something with great cut and sparkle.

Thanks, Ill let you know how I do!

Timber, because my company has now been recommended in the thread I will have to bow out. But just a couple of general explanations in response to your observations. There are ALOT more GIA princess because cutters do not have to worry about light performance when cutting stones to send GIA. Deficits such as light leakage and lack of fire will not show up on the report. They are able to retain more weight and still get a report that is sellable in the market. This accounts also for what you see as GIA stones with better specs (I assume you mean the other 3 C's), available at lower prices.

Cutters with the skill and will to do so instead cut for beauty and maximum light performance and send to AGS. There are very few of them in that category. It's a shame really.

Best of luck in your search.
