I'm shopping for a 1+ caret, excellent performer, round, eye clean, great value, etc. You know, the perfect diamond just like everyone else. Should i be concerned about an I colored diamond? This one seems to be pretty clean to me with good stats. What do you think?

Also, what am i really looking for when i look at a pic like this?

only you can answer this Q. have you look at any stone in person?

Find a local Hearts on Fire Dealer and call them for an appointment. Leave your wallet at home. When you call them tell them you are interested in seeing diamonds of color G-J. See what you think yourself. But be aware, jewelers lights tend to make all diamonds look white.

So make sure you see the diamonds out from those lights, near a window or outside if possible. And make sure you handle the diamonds and make them oily from your hands. Diamonds are rarely clean once they are on the hand.

Then you'll know if you like it or not.

Now, remember just because you can see the color doesn't mean you are color sensitive. It just means your eyes work. You are only color sensitive if you can see the color and it bothers you. Also remember that once the diamond is set you will not have a good view of the profile in most settings so even if you can see the color from the side and not from the top, it might be just great when set.

I'll second Gypsy's advice.
I think the only way to know the difference between colors is to see them and make a judgement of personal preference.
I personally think its very difficult to see the color difference between F to I from the top and think its very faint from the side in well performing diamonds (ex.. Hearts on Fire).

Thank you for the advice. I am going to schedule an appt. I feel like one can easily be taken advantage of, when trying to make a purchase. I have looked at a couple places, but they only each had one 1c diamond that was in a setting and it seemed awfully expensive compared to what's online, so i am going to do this purchase online.

I think this is the one for me, but i am going to have to make that appt and make sure the color will sit well with me. When i look at the pic of this diamond, i must be looking at a magnified view, correct? Then where does the loupe get you as far as magnifying if the pic is already magnified?

Thanks all for your response.
