Could anybody give me some advice to which diamond is better. I am bit partial to the G diamond just bc I'm worried about the yellowish color but I really don't know how to interpret the ASET images.

Price of the G?

Ok, so, I went looking for cushions to compare.

This is a video that GOG mad of a a cushion with similar cut, similar optics. Being a 3 ct I VS1, I briefly thought I had stumbled across a video of the same diamond you were interested in. Table in the video stone is 66, vs 59 for your stone.

Well. The G is showing mush. Both in the picture and in the ASET. But, other than that it's a strong ASET both in the center of the stone and at the edges. And it is a G. There are stones with similar ASETs designated as "Signature" stones on GOG, like this one: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11936/ -- and the G posted here is better than that one as there is much more red at the crown facets. And the megascope, while dinging on brilliance, is still very strong.

So WHILE the I is the CLEAR winner with the ASET and is an exceptional stone. I still think the G is a clearly an great stone. And WAY above average.

I PERSONALLY would feel comfortable buying an I and given how exceptional that stone is... it would be my choice. But I've seen a lot of diamonds on different colors. And the light return of that stone will mask a lot of the body color. From the top. But it will be visible from the side if you know what to look for.

But I really don't think there is a bad choice.

Here is how I see it.

One is Very Good on Color and Ideal on performance.
The other is Excellent on color and Great on performance.

At this point it's about trade offs and what you prefer. It's our job to help you make an educated choice. Not make the choice for you. Because color and the balancing of the 4 C's is very personal.

Where do you live? If you live near a good appraiser you can ask B2C to send both to the appraiser and just pick one. Many of our vendors will do this.

Alternately, I'd go to a Hearts on Fire dealer. Call around and ask to see an I color Dream Cut stone. It will be comparable to this I stone. And you can see for yourself what a stone with ideal performance and I color looks like.

I think you'll be impressed by how white the stone is. But I can't promise that. And that's why I want you to go see an ideal cut stone with I color in person.

OHHH I just realized something else.

The G is a computer generated ASET. While the I is a 'real stone' picture ASET.

Can you ask B2C to take a picture of the G with same photo set up as the I?

I think that would help us see a clear, same photo set up, comparison of apples and apples. :wavey:

WOW. Thank you SO much for this helpful information. All of your points are great points to consider! I live in Orange County and I'm going to take your advice and ask them to send both to an appraiser, in addition to asking for the same types of photo images.
Would you have a local appraiser in OC or LA area?
Thanks again! :wavey:

OH. OH. OH.

Can you take a short trip to see Patrick Davis? http://www.jewelryappraiser.net/

He's fantastic at this, from all reports. I've sent people to him and he's been VERY helpful ... and he's very affordable.

And he's independent so he will not give you self interested advice to sell you on a stone he has a financial interest in.

Yes, that's not too far at all! Thanks for the recommendation! I will definitely go see him! :)

Also, just as an update, they can't send the ASET for the "G" stone unless I purchase it (since it's overseas).
And I've ordered the "I" stone so I'll keep you posted once I receive it. :appl:

OK. Good news! Can't wait to hear back from you!

Re: Trying to decide between two Cushions with ASET. Help! =

Gypsy I know you would never lead people purposely astray but the diamond you linked to of ours is not a Signature Cushion. :read:

Oops. you are right! Too many windows open at once.

I was suprised that one was a signature. LOL!

But I have seen similar ASETs to that G in your signature line. But you run a lot of test of them (not just the ASET), you use your own expertise to sort through them.

Re: Trying to decide between two Cushions with ASET. Help! =

If it were me I'd go with the I color (first photo) - this is the opinion of just a normal person who has looked at about a million cushions recently on my own search. I would find the "mush" as others have put it distracting. I like that the facets are nice and clear in the first choice. I also love I color diamonds. It entirely depends on the look you're going for.
