Traveling abroad - airport security

Hey all!

First, I''m a newbie to PS, and spend countless hours roaming the site. I''m weeks away from proposing to my girlfriend. No pix of the ring yet, but it''s a Daniel K 3 stone Asscher and trillion. Can''t wait to see the finished product. Reason for my post, I''m considering a proposal in Paris at the end of the year. Like everyone who flies frequently, I know you''re all familiar with the painstaking security procedures at airports across the US. Here''s my question. Obviously, if I carry on the ring, I don''t want to have issues at security, scared that they''ll uncover the ring and ruin the surprise. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Rings worn on fingers do not set off the detectors! You can keep the ring in your pocket with little worry

Thanks so much for the reply! Has anyone packed the ring in a carry on only to have the xray machine pick up the ring and security question the contents of the carry on? That''s really what I''m worried about!

Hey OlivioB,
I work for airport security at checkpoints and you should keep the ring in a box in your carryon bag and keep an eye on it as it goes through the xray and you walk through the metal detector and or explosives puffer machine. Unless you are a selectee- you or your airline changes or cancels a flight, u book at the last minute,etc. nobody has to open your carryon. Make sure you don''t have liquids and gels over 3 oz in your carryon or they will open your bag. It would be easier and less trouble to check all toiletries. And no lighters in carryon or checked bags. check www.tsa.gov to get the latest requirements. They change frequently. You could keep the ring in your pocket and make sure u don''t have on a large steel watch or belt buckle, cell phone keys, change that would alarm the metal detector. It would probably be safer to keep it in your pocket so it stays on your person. Good luck

I think that Ellybelly has all the info needed.
My girlfriend’s brother had this same dilemma he was so paranoid about it that he cooked up this story that he had to go on an earlier flight and meet her in Hawaii, after some work. Please be sure to let us know how this turns out because I heard and read about this situation.

ellybelly, Thanks for the link from the TSA, I was thinking of doing something like this but I am a little paranoid that I will be stopped as well, or she will find out when I go through security.
Any additional thoughts? Much Appreciated

you will be fine. the ring will not set off the metal detector.
