Transitional stone worth less than a true OEC, OMC, etc.?

So I'm making some decisions with the help of a few well known antique vendors.

One of the stones presented is truly a one-of-a-kind transitional diamond - never seen anything like it, but my gosh it sure is purdy.

Since it's not really classified - i.e. transitional, does that make it worth less than a traditional antique diamond such as an OEC or OMC?

Dreamer if you happen to see this, I did send you a message through DB but never heard back. :wink2:

My opinion on this is probably worth what it is costing you ;)) , but I think what it is classified has zero to do with anything! I adore a beautiful transitional and often like them more than some OMC or OEC's. I'd grab it if you love it and the price is right! And Dreamer would be a big help if you can reach her!

Thanks DS! I wish I could post more details or a photo... but not yet :naughty:

I've strictly been looking at OEC's, so this one has thrown me for a loop (no pun intended)

A good Transitional stone is harder to find than a good OEC or OMC. At any given time, you can pop on ebay and find a bunch of the latter two, but you wont have as many options for Transitionals. To me, that makes them worth more, not less. As long as it's well cut. ;)

If you decide you really want an OEC, though, find me outside of here and let me know about this stone!

ForteKitty, you know the OEC I showed you? Well it sold :(

I was extremely disappointed until other "opportunities" presented themselves. :naughty:

LOL DS, too funny. But if you're serious then yes, I will share if I decide to pass on it. ;))

I love trannys and nice ones are hard to find!

Well cut stones, no matter their make, command a premium.

That said, I belive Erica once told me that OECs are more popular/in demand than transitionals, and early modern brilliants are likely the least sought (i.e., very long lower halves and splintery facets) which might also affect pricing. But that demand factor might be completely balanced by the rarity factor. Like FK said, well cut transitionals are very very hard to find.

(TLB I don't check that e-mail regularly, I'll look when I have time.)

Dreamer or DS (or ForteKitty), I'd be willing to send you the link to the tranny... but only in private ;)) I could use a good set of eyes and some valued opinions.
