I posted a similar thread on another forum, but then realized it probably belongs here for better feedback :)

I love traditional engagement rings, but I recently started looking at the stacked eternity rings and stumbled upon this....

diamond-engagement-ring-2.jpg

I really love the ring on the left. Could I get away with this instead of a traditional center stone diamond ring? My ring size is 5.25, so I think that this would still make a statement.

I'm not a very traditional girl and I think that this ring would really fit my personality, but I don't know if it would look funny.

Any thoughts? What would you think if you saw someone wearing this ring as an engagement ring? All of my friends and family have solitaire rings so I don't have anything to compare this to.

Thanks for the help!

I would think it's really gorgeous!

Many woman wear wedding band only in Canada. If they have chance to wear a beauty like it's a big +!

I certainly think so! I love the look of a blingy band for an e-ring, especially with stacking bands for the wedding and anniversaries. That said, I'd try it on first - I adore enormous stacks, but, alas, my fingers are short enough that more than 6 mm. of ring overpowers my finger. :|

I would agree with this, for me anything more than 4mm combined is to much for my stubby fingers. Try it on!

I would say I have normal to longer fingers, but I've never tried this style on so I may be singing the same tune! We are supposed to go looking again this Saturday so I'll send a full update on what we find and how they look.

I made the mistake of showing friends the picture any they said it looked like it would be mistaken for CZ's or a cocktail ring :(

I'm a little discouraged now.

Aw, don't be - individual taste is crucially important. I've had people tell me my ring was old-fashioned, too big, too small ... it's remarkable how tactless people can be. I can't fathom the logic behind, a) saying that, and, b) thinking a band with smaller stones is likelier to be a simulant than a big honker! That said, it's astonishing how parochial people can be about engagement rings - I've heard similar discouragement for colored stone e-rings, and even yellow gold ... anything outside the current norms. I say try it on, and if you love it, get it and take pride in both its beauty, and your own taste!

I think both are beautiful and if you love it then go for it. I would love a ring like that as a wedding band especially if I chose to forgo the traditional engagement ring.

Get what you want and tell your friends to take a flying leap. I once had the opportunity to tour the house of a very rich and prominent local business owner and was just sure his wife would have a honker on her left hand...wrong, she had a wide pave band and it was stunning. But do go to a B&M store and try on, try on, try on. You don't want to go too wide and make sure you can handle all those prongs.

You know, I find the thicker domed pave etoile ring from Tiffany a nice substantial, stand alone ring. Of course, I would refer you to replicas and not that 100% mark up!

As long as it's sparkly and gorgeous, how are people going to say it's fake?!

It's a gorgeous band!
If it looks good on your finger, go for it...no rules, just follow your heart/taste.

NO! DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED!!!!

I have a non-traditional engagement ring - i have an eternity band instead. I told my DH right off the bat, that i didn't want a traditional engagement ring. If i'm being honest, there were a multitude of reasons for this, besides my wanting something "different." I was 33 when i got married, and wanted to keep the budget as low as possible, since we have a financial plan we are trying to stick to (and bands are cheaper than are solitaires for the coveragee). Our budget was smaller than many, and the size diamond we could afford wouldn't have looked great on my size 7 - 7.5 finger. Finally, i tried on a TON of rings (over and over and over) and just really liked the way the bands looked as opposed to pave, three stone, gemstone, and anything else i tried on.

Honestly, when i got engaged, some people seemed confused. i have a really traditional friend who has three kids. They were so excited to see my ring, and then were REALLY visibly confused  Someone else said it looked like a wedding band (which it eventually became). But for every person who didn't love it, someone else thought it was great!

Get what YOU LOVE. i'm not saying you won't have your friends forever, but you may not; hopefully, you will have your ring and husband forever. I have to say, i don't think anyone would look at my finger and think cocktail ring or CZ - nor do i think that about the pics you posted. next time you tell one of your friends about the ring, try this: "OH MY GOD!!!! I am SO excited about this ring! it's so pretty and so different - i just LOVE it!!!!!" see what they say then

I'll post a pic of another ring i considered when i was looking - the vendor pic is HORRIBLE, but in real life it was really really beautiful, and i thought it would have been a great ring.

Don't fall prey to the supposed "norms". Get what YOU like and want. That is a very beautiful and substantial band and if it looks good and you like it, you should go for it. A lot more people go alternative routes than you think.

I love the ring! It's beautiful! I'd wear it as an engagement ring for sure!

I the only thing I can add is....hmmm...I guess that I think some people are super comfortable making choices in fashion differnet than the norm. Those people tend to be trend setters and once they get one everyone esle wants one too. Do you know those people? So do you think you are one of those people?

Or do you suppose you tend to choose the traditional things to more fit in and not stand out in a crowd. I don't mean that in a bad way either--there is a reason tiffany style settings are so popular, they are a classic timeless choice. What I mean is that if you were to choose that ring and someone said "Uh, hello, that is not even an engagement ring" would your feelings be hurt? Or would you look at the person and think "Hmmm...she knows nothing about having her own sense of style" and then never think another thing about it.

If you think you are a trend setter, then go for it. Of course it wil drive you nutty when everyone esle in your circle follows your lead. :wink2:

If you are more of a follower then every time someone says something to you about your ring you might continually second guess your choice and who wants to have negative feelings about their engagement ring?

Anyway, just my thoughts...but I do love, love, LOVE that ring!

I say go for what you like!

A friend of mine got these Bario-Neal rings. I know this is totally not to your taste, at least from what you just posted, I thought it was a cool example of two stacking rings as e-ring and w-ring.

I love it! I would like to see it with a thin white gold (or plat) wedding ring... I think the two together would look amazing and complete.

I think it's really lovely and if it's what you want, then go for it.

If I could go back and do it again, I might get a five stone instead of a solitaire. So if this is what you want, GO FOR IT! Just make sure you try something similar on in person to make sure the width works for your hand.
