Hi all! Quick question for you guys. I have an engagement ring from my first marriage. It is from Whitehall jewelers...I know, I know, this was years ago...I was very young and I had no idea about quality or even certificates

I am planning on upgrading/exchanging the stone per their store policy as a gift for my daughter''s high school graduation (perhaps a pendant). Here is the thing though...she is only 7 now!!!!! I don''t want to use the current stone as I would rather her have something that I picked out especially for her. The stone is worth 3,000 (through Whitehall)....so I should be able to get something beautiful for her...even though I''m sure the quality will not be top notch.
My question is should I exchange/upgrade it now...since realistically diamonds will be much more expensive in 10 years??? I will probably get more bang for my buck if I do this now, right???? Perhaps the store will not even exist in 10 years?????

Also....does anyone know if Whitehall sells certified stones...I''m pretty sure they didn''t back when this ring was purchased.

What do you all think? Thanks in advance for your replies!!!!!!

Well I would go to Whitehall or call them and ask if they carry certified diamonds and what type of certificate. Other certs other than AGS and GIA can be a little off sometime as far as color or clarity another thing to keep in mind. The other questions sorry.

You''re absolutely right, you get more bang for the buck now. The longer you wait (assuming diamond prices go up) the less value your upgrade policy holds and at some point it would be better to just flat out sell it.

Might as well do it now, there isn''t really a reason not to.

Go now, you can always go back and do it again in the future, but this way you are not worrying about it for the next 11 years
