Does a Princess look larger than a Round of the same carat?

No, it looks smaller. Not sure of the actual difference, but I know I''ve seen it on here before...I don''t think you''re ? was tacky at all, btw! I do know that the cost of a princess per carat is less than a round though...so that should help and make up for the visual difference...hope this helps a bit. klr

A princess will look smaller than a round of the same carat size.

For example, as a general guide, a 1.0 ideal cut round will be approximately 6.4mm x 6.4mm, while a 1.0 ideal cut princess will be approximately 5.6mm x 5.6mm.

Correct, but ...

If you measure that same princess from point to point, you are around 7.8x7.8mm.

Live long,

The thing is, if you look at the diameter-measurements, the difference will seem huge.

However, if you actually measure the surface-area, the surface a princess will be only about 5% smaller than that of a round.

Hi
Here is an approximate comparison of an average 1ct Princess 5.7mm x 5.7mm x 3.97 and an average 1ct Round 6.5mm x 6.5mm x 3.93mm. Hope this helps

Johan,

THANK YOU for that photo. I''m not even in the market, but I found that side-by-side comparison VERY interesting! That will be really helpful for people considering and comparing RBs vs princess.

The other problem is overall brightness and edge to edge brightness.
A well cut round of the same surface area as a primcess llooks bigger than the princess.
Amd the roind has more sideways height sticking out of the setting.

But the princess is cheaper per carat.

It gets down to where you like your excesses.

as a hot blooded guy, it is a no brainer - Give me more up top any day.

(BTW these are both the same weight)

I never understood why you kept on pushing that idea of Firey Ideal Cuts. Now, I understand.
