I have decided to look for a jeweler to source a unheated blue sapphire for me instead of doing it over the internet.. I like it to be in a fat pear shape about 1.5-2 carats range. He came back with one after a month and he said its a top color, no heat, no nothing, (no cert too, but he can provide one from GIA or GRS at his expense) Priced at $990. I have took some quick snaps. It is very glowy, no window. Would you give it a green light?? Is that a reasonable pricing? I am trying to cup my hand at the back of the stone..don't ask me why..because I do not know the reason..just trying to follow some of what I saw here to hopefully take some better snaps :?:

Or do you have better suggestions? feel free to voice your thoughts I am dying to know..thanks

also to ask. Is that the sought-after type of blue in a sapphire..you see, some seller will always say that its top, especially to layman (learner) like me.

I'm not much of an expert, but to me it looks dark- I wouldnt' consider that top color. Have you seen some of the sapphires on here that Jeff White has cut? To me those are top color and I know that he charges a lot more then $990 for his percision cut sapphires.

Color is personal though. So if you like it that is all that should matter.

I just called to check this is only teeny weeny 1 carat...certification is NOT included, I need to pay additional $150 for GIA/GRS. I must have mixed up the info with the other stone. It is not dark when I see, could be because I do not have flash function in my cheapy camera thanks

I was going to say that $990 is inexpensive for an unheated 1.5 to 2 ct sapphire with such nice color as yours is depicted in the photos. However, it is only 1 carat, and that's probably a fair price if unheated. However, I would be cautious using the word "top" as many jewelers do that, and color quality is not really denoted by any labs except AGL. You also need to ensure it doesn't black out, or turn greyer in other lighting, which sapphires are prone to. I would also like shots of the stone from the pavillion and other angles to make sure the zoning isn't terribly bad. What kind of lighting did he shoot those photos in?

The website is useful. Thank you.I took those snaps indoor near an open window on a sunny afternoon. No flashes. I took a snap of it face down in the shop, will put up the photo tomorrow. If I want it certified, can I know how much will AGTA, AGL, GIA charge? Which do you recommend?

Also, I checked it under various light.. No grey at all, no black out either. Just blue maybe a little bit more cobalt like under sunlight and slight violetish under yellow overhead light. Worth to get a cert??

If you're in the US, then the AGL is the way to go for sure. The AGTA is no longer doing lab reports. The AGL has prices listed on their website. For color quality, you need to get the prestige report.

Look at it against the back of your hand because that is how you are going to see it. Not against white paper; I was making this mistake at the very beginning.

Color is a very specific thing. It really depends on your preferences. Sapphires which have a little bit of violet in them are aesthetically more pleasing to the eye. Just my two cents. I am going to post a link to a sapphire which I saw in person and did not buy because at that moment I had two. It looks dark but it does not get inky at nighttime. Sometimes I regret returning it back.

So... I saw it in real life. It already comes with AGL memo, is saturated, has absolutely no grey. It is what I would call "juicy" and I regret not purchasing it. If you like the cut, of course. I would have made it into something special. Unfortunately, I was keeping money for another project. Which I really regret in hindsight.

It wonderful to know your experience I am grateful. I have to buy this sapphire judging from the color I saw

To add, the AGL is expensive i will see what he can do for me.Thanks

this is the bottom view. I was quoted $1300 to purchase it with a GIA certificate.. and a wait of a month.Feel free to voice your views. Thanks

I would prefer an AGL, and the memos are actually more affordable. I think $1300 is a bit much for such a tiny stone with good, but not superior color. JMO.

I think it is too tiny for me..there will be some new Sapphire rings coming at this month end. maybe I can find a bigger, ready one.
