Top 2 (or 3 if you're a big shopper) CS purchases of 2018

Hi Guys

As we close out a fun year of purchases, CADs, wonderful advice from fellow PSers I thought it would be fun to post our favourite pieces for 2018.

I've thought hard for mine and surprisingly my two favourite pieces this year were not green!

My big lavender cab which I got for a great price. I loooooove the colour!!! This was taken under the worse lighting to mess up it's colour and it's still lavender!!!! I also love how big and rockish it is! So much fun wearing it!



Pink sapphire which was supposed to be heated abd then turned out untreated. I adore the colour. Bright pink!



Green jade cab came a super close third but couldn't beat these two. I think Pink Bandit is bringing me to the pink side

Only two?! Maybe three?! I’m picking two rings and two loose stones! And that was difficult to do! Can’t wait to see what others post!

Very recently purchased silvery sapphire.

Hard to pick but mine are probably:

My emerald suite (ok, it’s two pieces so I’m cheating but they are the same shade so I think of them as a set!)


My blue zircon which impressed me by how beautiful and scintillating it turned out to be.


My non-CS best buy would be my oval diamond bangle which fits perfectly around my wrist and I love so much that it doesn’t spin constantly like other bracelets.

I LOVE my Whiteflash RG diamond bangle and all the RG settings and earrings bought afterwards was to match with it!

2018 was a busy and expensive year for me. I didn’t buy a lot of new gemstones but I made some real progress in setting the ones I already had (yay me! ). I also bought two CS rings, which I absolutely love, from a couple of great vendors.

1. I bought this gorgeous purple sapphire from Cecile Raley Designs and had it set into a preloved Veraggio halo ring. This purple is the perfect shade for me. A little purple and a little pink.



2. I bought this 3ct Merlani mint garnet ring from Gilded Lane (aka @athenaworth). I absolutely adore this ring. It’s totally different from anything I own and I freaking love it! The mint sparkles like crazy and I still remember the happy sounds I made when I first opened the box.




3. My new paraiba three stone tops the list for me. I’ve waited on this one for years and it was so worth it.

@MakingTheGrade I love all your favorites for this year! That pad and tsav ring is still one of my favorites and I’m so glad to see you working on Hazel (are you renaming it?).

@Burmesedaze That cuprian is freaking incredible! It blows me away every time I see it.

omg that opal has me SCREAMING! Where did you purchase it? Opal is my favorite stone and I follow a couple of vendors on insta but you never know who is totally legit...

Will have to come back later and post pics of my jelly opal sugarloaf, definitely my fave CS purchase

Pink Bandit's favourite colour is pink! Wears pink shirts, has a pink apple watch band, previously had a RG Iphone (before he dropped it into the lake), random pink accessories...you get the idea! He has always wanted me to add pink to my bling collection.

After thinking carefully, my top three CS purchases in 2018 would be this:

1. Antique Georgian hard stone seal ring


2. Jadeite oval cab (much nicer IRL, with a vibrant green translucency running through it)


3. Grey Spinel from Finewater Gems, in a fabulous pre-loved DK setting I bought from the lovely Maisie


* Tied for 4th. I bought two super special stones this year from Precision Gem, a lovely Blue Sapphire cushion (Madagascar) and a lab Emerald step-cut (pics posted in on page 3 of this PS thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/colored-gem-beauties-lab-created.242317/page-3)

I'm new to CS so it's been a year of learning for me. My fave purchase this year was buying an antique ring, rescuing the old cut, (but beat up) blue zircon from it. Learned about Jerry Newman, had him recut and polish the stone, and had DK mount it in my (first ) DK ring. Zircon was my late father's birthstone, so this is very special to me.


I also bought my first, but not last!, spinel. I will be forever thankful to @elle_71125 for sharing it on PS, as it was exactly the color I wanted.


And now on to the coming year, many projects in the works, getting my spinel set, my new spinel earrings made

and setting my sweet new baby OEC (.2 in a diamond pendant by Ivy and Rose.
That should keep me busy awhile, right? Yeah, right! Until the next thing turns my head...I really want a hot pink stone and an indicolite tourmaline, so.....

I first found Pricescope whilst trying to determine if a 4ct pear shaped sapphire pendant I'd seen on eBay was going to be a good purchase for DW. After a lot of advice from the the ladies here we ended up with a 9.3ct Tanzanite pendant for less than half the price. The stone was purchased for us at the Tucson gem show by Kevin of Kevin's Gems in LA, and the design and setting were courtesy of the beautiful and brilliant Amy Phillips of DKJ.

We found our next CS purchase at a consignment store in Palm Springs. I'd seen it on a previous visit a month earlier and found myself waking up in the middle of the night thinking about it. Anyway I said to DW I think we need to go back and take another look at that emerald. She said what took you so long? Again, we got a lot of help from DKJ in bringing it back to it's full splendor.

Last but not least is a little 22ct ring we picked up for $500 at an auction near Ojai. Our appraiser is extremely knowledgeable, insurance Companies fly her all over the country to appraise million dollar plus collections, but she struggled to identify the stone. We were hoping for a padparadscha but it turned out to be a peach pink tourmaline.
