Hello. I''m wondering if there is any tools that can be used when analyzing any shapes other than rounds. I have read about aset images, but I am looking for something that can be used by me when viewing the certificate.

Is there a chart that shows what to look for in terms of proportions for each shape? Or am I simply best to rely on the GIA cut grade?

Thanks!

Above is a chart which will help you, there are similar for other shapes too if you go to knowledge, then click on fancy shapes to the left.

Also here is a shape selector tool which is useful to get an idea of actual shape for fancies.

Don't forget that your own best tool with fancy shapes is your own eyes, and work with an expert vendor who can assist you with in house diamonds preferably.

There is a "fill-in-the-blanks" automated do it yourself cut analysis tool for screening stones also on gem appraisers.com which will work with most of the fancy shapes. Cushion is the one exception where the rules don''t seem as evident even after years of looking at stones. You can use the oval analysis tool for cushions, but it is less reliable for that shape. Cushions can be eliptical or near square. They can be more round, more princess square, long and narrow, boxed corners of very rounded corners. Just too many vairations to package neatly.

Other shapes have wide variations, too. It seems most perform with more regularity than what occurs with cushions. This is not science, but my own, seat of the pants, reaction to what I have observed.

Thanks so much all
