I recently purchased this diamond: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/might-buy-it-nervous-and-need-advice-on-specific-diamond.123806/

Thanks guys by the way.

It is rated AGS0, ideal cut, etc.

After taking it around the house for different lighting, it has TONS of brilliance and scintillation, but I am underwhelmed by the lack of "fire".

Or I could be delusional. I put it under a desk lamp halogen, and it sparkles like I''ve never seen, but it doesn''t display many colors of the rainbow?

Am I expecting too much out of the diamond? I was going to take it to Tiffany''s and "compare my friends diamond" to their settings so I can use their lighting.

It''s almost like a piece of glass, the diamond is clear and beautiful and sparkles. How does one really tell fire?

have you looked through this fire thread started by Ellen?. Maybe we hyped up the diamond too much and you are expecting a rainbow shower? this thread might help you see what is meant by fire?

lol This happens, seriously. You open the box and expect the Fourth of July!

You need to get it out and about. As I said, house lighting is not the best for seeing the fireworks display. Get it in grocery stores (seriously) with high ceilings and flourescent lighting, elevators with spot lighting, restaurants/bars with low/spot lighting, the sun, jewelry stores, etc. You''ll know fire when you see it!

I would like to revise my comments after looking through the Ellen thread.

Actually, the diamond has some pretty good fire. My problem was that my comparison image in my head was from a trip to Tiffany''s about 6 months ago, and under their specialized lighting, all their diamonds look great.

yap, special lighting... :P

Enjoy your stone. :)

Don't worry, I think you've got a stunner, but those special lighting sure makes some of the poorest cut diamonds even in mall stores look great.

Good to hear! Now, get that puppy in some jewelry store lighting and see what happens.

I think you will need to get into their display case as they have LED lights in them too... :P

They don''t have special lighting in the room itself? Every other store does.

They have, but the showcases also have lighting.

So do not just compare with their stones in the showcase. Disadvantage...

Go in a jewelry store and hold your hand with the stone facing parallel to the front of the glass case. Look through the top and out the side at your ring. You get some of the case lighting effect on your stone - you''ll see it light up! My very favorite is Home Depot though - my husband doesn''t even like me going in there with him. Says he can''t get my attention!
