Hey, anybody got any tips on fluorescence? Particularly with a platinum e-ring, I''m wondering what effect it will have. Could it actually make the rock look blue, like a Z rock would yellow?

My personal preference is for blue fluorescence rather than none (by the way, stay away from yellow/greenish fluor, it makes the stone look more yellow). However, in high colors (D-F) more than medium blue fluor will decrease the value of the stone a little. Again, personally, I think that's a plus. The blue fluor is only apparent in sunlight, and if it's strong enough, might give the stone a slight bluish or lavender hue. In overblue cases, the stone may appear milky or cloudy, I'd definitely avoid that, though it's quite rare. In lower color stones, the blue fluor can make them look whiter, which is desireable, and may bump the price up a teeny bit too.

Bottom line, your diamond will not look like a blue sapphire. In strong sunshine, it might glint a little bluish (which I happen to love). At a club with black lighting, it will glow a purplish blue. I think it boils down to personal preference. Run a search for fluorescence here, and also look at what the tutorial says about it for more info.

I love fluorescence. What could be cooler?

It's definitely a personal preference. Recently a friend of mine and I were able to compare nearly identical RB stones -- same size, cut parameters, and color. One had medium blue fluorescence, and the other had none. My eye loved the fluorescent stone, but my friend preferred the one without. Fluorescence can give a diamond a crisp, "plugged-in" look, but I think its very pretty.

I think the look of flour. is quite lovely, especially with platinum.
