To CARTIER or NOT to Cartier, that is the Question

Hello everyone! A post a few days ago about Cartier Rolling Trinity Rings by Kissmark had me thinking. I am interested in buying a trinity ring. I actually tried on the Cartier version and really liked it. What is funny is that someone gave me some Godiva Chocolates and on the package was a double rolling ring in a gold tone metal of some sort. I wore it today as a test to see if I liked it and I do!!

So, here is my question….Does a girl save up her money to fork over the $1K for a Cartier ring http://www.cartier.com/en_na/Cartier or should get an unbranded version of the same ring at a place like http://www.rollingring.com/Gold-Rolling-Rings-s/20.htm where they are about a 1/4 of the cost? It will have the same look and style, but it will not say Cartier on the outside….

I know a few people have mentioned that Memoire sells them as well. Any idea of a price?

I was faced with the same delimma. I think I''ve tried on ever style of trinity ring at Cartier multiple times. I finally decided a couple of months ago that I absolutely wanted a trinity band and went back to Cartier several times to make sure. When they informed me their prices had gone up (again!) I decided it just wasn''t worth it. I ended up ordering the 18k tri-color band from rollingring.com and I am SO glad I did. I''ve even compared my ring next to the Cartier ring at Cartier and the colors are identical. For me the extra $750 in savings was completely worth it.

If the name is important to you, I know that the trinity ring does pop up on signed pieces (none there now) and several PSers have had luck on Ebay, though that is riskier. I found a couple on Ebay in my size for around $400 - $500, but I was a little apprehensive about it.

I didn''t plan on wearing my rolling ring every day because I got it as an alternative for my e-ring and wedding band. Most days I wear the rolling ring, though. Even when I decide to wear my e-ring and wedding band, I wear the trinity ring on my right hand and so far it''s held up really well.

One last thing--long before I found PS I ordered the Trinity One in a size 56 (I cancelled the order) which is equivalent to a 7.75 in american sizes. When I ordered the rolling ring from rollingring.com, I decided to get it in an 8 and I''m glad I did.

I feel the same as you. I don''t think the extra $750 is worth having Cariter stmaped on the ring. In fact, I may like it even better w/ just plain bands...

So, the size 8 was true to size? I usually where a 6 on my right hand. When I was in Cartier, I needed a 5!!! At rollingring.com the woman told me it was true to size, so to get a six. Is that your recommendation too?

I thought if I can find a good one on ebay then I would just bid on it at a price that I am comfortable with. Since I''ll only be wearing it on somedays as a RHR, it didn''t bother me if it''s not brand new. I finally saw one w/ my size and the seller had good feedbacks and seemed trustworthy, and luckly I wont the bid. But as you can tell from my previous post I am still a little uneasy about the authenticity and plan to take it to the store to find out.

You can also try signed pieces they periodically have preowned trinity popping up. They are much more reliable than any ebay seller.

I hear ya Kissmark! Your original thread really got me thinking. I think I will check out signed pieces too. I also think that if you love the ring you bought \, then you have the best of both worlds! At the worst, its a goregosu ring that may not be Cartier, but you love and is unique and at the best, you got an awesome deal on a cartier ring!!

I think if the ring is to be worn everyday I''d go for the original Cartier. When you think about the price per use it really won''t be much more after time. Then again maybe the internet rings are nice, I''m just always apprehensive about that sort of thing. Also, don''t some of the Cartier rings not say ''Cartier'' on them - I would prefer no brand name on the outside. Personally I love the white gold and diamond bands!

I personally would rather NOT have the word "Cartier" stamped on the outside of my jewelry. And I like the site for the generic rolling rings - I might buy one from there!

There is a version that has the "Cartier" stamped on the INSIDE only. There are two versions. In Cartier NY I saw the plain tri-color bands for $950. To me that's well worth the price of getting an original piece that could eventually be an heirloom to a daughter or family member.

FYI: the one with one diamond pave band in white gold was $2,900, I think.

I am glad to hear the colors are the same, because they look a bit too vivid in the rollingring.com website pictures. I really want the trinity with scattered diamonds, and the $2270 price difference between the original and the replica is pretty substantial. Of course, I keep looking for a pre-owned version from a reputable vendor in my size.

I agree. I am not a big fan of having a designer''s name emblazoned across the outside of my apparel. I always figured if I got the non-diamond trinity with "Cartier" stamped on the outside of the ring, I would turn the ring so that part is facing my palm.
