I have noticed increasing interest in the old cuts here on PS.

Personally, the only diamond other than melee that I would ever like to own is an OEC or transitional. I just love those chunky facets and the FIRE! I''m more into the look than a ''historic'' stone.

However, I''m sure that there must be a way of maximising the OEC''s qualities and having a better range of clarity and colour than you can normally get - basically an Ideal cut OEC.

Could some of the cutters who are on here chime in and tell me:

a) Is it feasible - and if not, why not?

b) Are they doing it already?

c) When are they starting the PSOEC production?

And any other bits they care to share!

I was wondering about that myself. Glad you asked.

What about making new old miners?

Pandora, your post made me laugh this morning! Hmmmmm, I''ve been trying to think up a quick way to make my fortune...Hmmmm, perhaps I should take my ering and plot all the angles and %''s and measurements of my stone and sell it to DeBeers?

Thanks for the idea!

Lol, funnily enough I was in DeBeers in New Bond Street yesterday - one of my brother''s friends works there, so I got to have a good chat (although her knowledge of diamonds was pretty sketchy - let alone anything else.)

I asked about old cuts and transitionals and she got the manager over to discuss them - they had no idea where you could buy one or get one cut. They were surprised anyone was even interested.

I think we should set up in business!

I''m in! We can call ourselves Pansurf Old Cuts...or...Surfpan Old Cuts. We''ll be YOOGE. We''ll be bigger than DeBeers! Book me a flight on BA, I''m coming over right away...

When you figure out how to duplicate your stone, I''ll be the first in line

Not if I beat you there :)

That would be great. OECs are lovely stones and if someone can cut them with great symmetry & polish, without VThin girdles, higher colour, and still keep those large culets and chunky facets, we are all set.

Well, as much as I like you all very much, I have to give Lorelei the first one because she thought up a WAY better brand name than I did! SurfDora, I like it...!

Chrono, if the only way to duplicate is to have ex/v thin girdles, what then? Are you in or out??

I think my transition has a very thin girdle. Ex thin is too scary. Are you sure that OECs can''t get away with a thin girdle?

As does mine...But what I''m asking is IF you could have the most amazing stone but it only performed the way it did by having an ex/vth girdle, would you take it as is or pass? I''m just curious...I really need to get a life, dont I?!

I am so wanting an OEC! I find myself shopping all the antique websites for one, and I really must stop for now!

It must go on my wish list or vision board, or something . . . because I will have one someday!

Any cutters out there?

''SurfDora'' is anxious to hear from you. We''ll even offer a generous share of the profits from our new ''business''.

Surfgirl, we need to get patenting on this new cut - I mean, we''ve already sold 4 or 5!

Well get your brother the Solicitor to write it up!
