My Dad sent me these pictures. Apprarently, in California, a mother tiger had a set of premature triplets. Due to their small size, they passed away shortly. The mother tiger was depressed and her health had gone downhill, so the Zoo was looking for surrogate cubs. There weren't any, so they dressed up these piglets in tiger skins, and tried to place them with her, unsure of her reaction. It sure looks like she took to them!

That is soooo cute, but I''m a little, um, concerned. Tigers don''t like pork, I hope? Please say they don''t!

Yeah... think it''s wonderful...but umm.... hope she doesn''t get a bacon craving... and those pelts. Did they skin her dead babies for them? (Sorry can''t help it... I have fur issues... even fur for animals.)...although, that'' probably for the best... the scent and all... okay... yeah. Ew. Will stop. SORRY.

I looked for more info about this on the web and I came across this site:

Inter-species animal photos

Some of these pics are the sweetest and oddest pics I have ever seen. Worth a perusal, IMO! very heartwarming!

Wonderful!!! That is an old trick often used by farmers with an orphaned lamb or calf, foal etc, to use the skins of the dead babies to try to get a surrogate Mum to accept the new baby - the actual skin is important for the scent " imprinting" to make the Mother think she has her own baby back. It certainly looks like Mum tiger is happy with her piggy babies!!!! Gypsy if it helps, think of the fur thing this way....using the skin of the tiger cubs which are already dead is helping to save other lives. Thanks for sharing that Amber!

What an absolutely gorgeous tiger!

I know Zoo''s do good work in terms of breeding programs etc......but I prefer to see wild animals in there own enviroment.

I once took my daughters to a water park in spain. There was a dolphin show, which was absolutely incredible. However, when I looked at my eldest daughters face, there were tears rolling down her cheeks. I understood how she was feeling, because I can''t bear to see animals in captivity.
