I''m fortunate to have found someone I want to spend the rest of my life with, and I think it''s time to buy an engagement ring and settle down with her. I don''t know the first thing about diamonds, outside of the few things I have read on the web recently trying to familiarize myself with the whole diamond purchasing terminology and information.

My girlfriend, is addicted to labels, designer labels and everything about them. She loves to shop and lovingly refers to it as her retail therapy. She wants a Tiffany engagement ring, there is no room for any deviation, the engagement ring will be inside of a little blue box.

I am hoping to go to the Local Tiffany''s near me soon and start looking at what they have to offer. But I want to go armed with some information of course, so here are the parameters I''m working with.

Budget: 4,000-8,000, I would prefer to spend around 5-6k to be honest.
Solitaire Diamond, she wants one diamond, nothing on the sides, etc.
Platinum Band
Either a Princess or Cushion Cut

Will Tiffany''s have something that fit''s that budget and what further information should I be researching?

Thanks in advance everyone

First off, welcome. Second, do a search for your topic in the search bar. There have been many many people who have been in the same situation as you are in now and I''m sure you''ll find your answers there. Basically, buying from T&Co is a decision that you and you alone can make (with GFs input of course). If T&Co is what you want, then go for it. But be prepared to ask a LOT of questions. A lot of people think "this is a high-end store, they must deal in only the best of everything," but the truth is, sometimes what they sell isn''t the best. Sure it might fit into their specific specs (such as not selling lower than an F color stone), but their cut quality can sometimes be lacking. So go in with a set of specs in mind and ask them to do the leg work for you. They should be willing to work for the sale as that''s one of the amenities of working with a quality retailer.

Just remember, take your time and ASK QUESTIONS!

tiffany's has 2 cushion cuts, but both come with diamonds in the settings. the novo and the legacy which is a cushion mix type cut. I do think they now have a princess but for some time no princess there either. Nothing wrong with tiffany's if that is what your gal has her heart set on, but you are going to be paying a huge mark-up for the name. you can get her a much bigger diamond on your budget if you shop with a PS vendor. If you're looking for a princess, stick with AGS000 grading, this will guarentee you a winner of a stone. Cushions are a tricky stone and are much harder to know. We usually suggest contacting Mark t at www.engagmentringsdirect.com to hunt down the cushions. he's located right in the diamond district of NY and has accesss to a ton of them and has a keen eye with the ability to find the best ones. Whiteflash.com, goodoldgold, winfields, pearlmans and icemine.com all have the ags princess stones and can help you. all have wonderful reputations on this site.

welcome to PS

ETA: there is also a store called www.signedpieces.com where they sell 2nd hand Tiffany rings. it really is a great way to get a real Tiffany ring with the blue box but avoid the huge mark-up.

They only sell princesses, not cushions, in solitaire settings as others have mentioned. They also have a cut called the lucida, which is a gorgeous square stone too. Worth considering.

Here is one for a GREAT price at signed pieces. If you are not averse to a secondhand ring, this could save a lot of $ for the wedding!:

They don''t show it on their website, but they do offer princess cut diamond in the classic Tiffany 6 prong setting. So if she likes the princess cut then that is an option for you. You should be able to get approx .75 carat for around the 7,000 dollar range.

I agree with Neatfreak in that you should definitely have a look at signed pieces to see do they have any at the moment. It could definitely save you money if you don''t mind a second hand ring. I have a tiffany lucida and I would definitely recommend that you email the store that you''re going to and get them to order in some of the ring styles that you are into as some of the stores don''t have the exact specs that you might be looking for. For your budget, the diamond will be under a carat, so I would check with your gf that she is happy to get a smaller tiffany rather than a larger non-tiffany diamond. If she''s happy, go for it. I personally got a I, VVS2 when we got ours. It''s extremely white and I would have been happy to drop lower in clarity but they didn''t have any lower in stock when we got ours. Best of luck shopping!

I completely 2nd this. If your girlfriend really wants a Tiffany, then you should get what she wants. But make it clear to her that you can get a bigger stone elsewhere. Just for reference, I was quoted a 1.05 ct, F/VS1, for $14,700. If you want you can email Tiffany's for quotes before you go to an actual store. You can just give them the spects that you want, and they should reply you with some prices. That way you can you get a rough idea how much premium they charge before you go.

That''s a beautiful ring!
