Tiffany is an amazing company that has absolutely beautiful, high quality jewelry. There is no doubt that they have the best branding, name recognition, service and experience. When you buy a Tiffany diamond engagement ring, you will get a magnificent ring with a company that has over 100 years of outstanding quality and service.

I''ve bought a lot of jewelry for my girlfriend from Tiffany''s over the years. Key, charm bracelets, necklaces, etc. All wonderful quality and a great experience. Naturally, every time we went into a Tiffany''s store, we looked over the engagement rings. In fact, that''s how she decided on the cut, quality and setting of the one I got her.

However, through Pricescope and other internet resources, the deal-finder in me knew that I could get an equivalent, or better diamond at a far better price. I decided to purchase the following from Union Diamond: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/might-buy-it-nervous-and-need-advice-on-specific-diamond.123806/

Thanks by the way to Stone, Ellen, Sara and the crew for helping me out. Special thanks to Tony at Union Diamond for helping me through the process and taking a personal touch to it and always getting back to me with my many questions.

I received the diamond last week and I love it. However, I still had that sparkly Tiffany diamond in my head and had concerns that my diamond wouldn''t compare.

So today I called up Tiffany''s, and on my way to my appraisal appointment, scheduled a meeting to discuss purchasing a Tiffany ring.

My options were:
1.31, H, VS1, $14,200
1.26, H, VS1, $13,600

Both were outstanding diamonds. During my appointment, I stated that my "best friend" just purchased a ring and my girlfriend loved it when he showed it to her and she wanted the same setting. I told them my friend allowed me to bring his ring along for comparison of the setting, so I was able to compare my ring, under Tiffany lighting, to some of their stones.

First, I must say. The Tiffany setting from Tiffany is AMAZING. I got the replica from Union Diamond and I love it and it is great quality, but there is something a little extra to the original. Although the cost is almost triple what I paid for mine.

Not only was my stone bigger at 1.46 ct., but my I, VS2 outperformed both of them.

This is not to say that the other rings were AMAZING, they were. If you can afford a Tiffany ring in your price range with all your specifications then I would definitely do it in a heart beat.

Tiffany has spent a lot of money and time on their lighting as well. My ring was freakin'' unbelievable under their lighting. I mean, MY GOD! I wish I could have those lights installed in my house when I show off her ring. After I viewed the ring in the mall lighting, it looked like a dirty piece of glass when compared to how it looked under their conditions. Totally unfair.

The point is, for you newcomers who want a great ring at a great value, but are afraid the only way to get that is through a name brand, DON''T BE AFRAID! Pricescope is an unbelievable resource for you. Do your research, take your time and you will be rewarded.

Can''t wait to see the ring on her finger!! It sounds lovely!!

The stone you purchased is beautiful, congrats!

I think I read somewhere that Tiffany''s is going to start grading their own diamonds to their standards, rather than use AGS or GIA. Anyone know if this is true or just rumors?

I asked the diamond specialist today while I was viewing them if the diamond was AGS or GIA and he said that they now grade their own diamonds.

I didn''t ask to see a certificate, but I will be by another store tomorrow and maybe I will ask to see it.

That''s kind of scary that they grade their own diamonds lol.... How accurate is their grading to GIA/AGS (noted as some of the best)

aww what a lovely post! thanks for sharing your story! i certainly wish my fiance and i found pricescope before getting my ring - but better late than never :D

Yeah, it is kind of scary. Especially since they are still using the standard measurements: H, I, J, etc. and VS1,2 SI1,2.

I can only guess, but maybe it is a preemptive move by Tiffany to battle against the rising online diamond and Pricescope sales? Another way to set it apart and keep it unique? After all, you can get a GIA or AGS graded diamond anywhere, but now you can only get a TIFFANY graded diamond at Tiffany''s.

If you''re buying it from Tiffany''s, then there is a chance you are not aware of the GIA or AGS standards and how they apply.

If Pricescope, BN, WF, JA, etc., didn''t exist, I would have probably bought my diamond from Tiffany''s.

Hi,

Their diamonds all have GIA reports. Apparently they don''t advertise this and do grade in-house. I was informed that on items over a certain amt. they would provide reports upon request. If their grading of a stone is less favorable compared to GIA they use the lower grade.

If u do a search here u will find "GIA-gate" as this contributed to their departure from relying only on GIA fairly recently.

This is a thread that I recently posted after my last visit with some answers to my questions about T&Co.

Now off to try and see your diamond......Congratulations
