Hi everyone,
I''ve been doing my research and my reading and have read as much as I possibly can on this board. At this point, I feel stuck. I''m also rather exhausted with this diamond ring search and I really don''t know where else to go with my questions. So thanks ahead of time to anyone who would like to chime in or offer any advice.

Okay, now down to the question. This is not a ''is a tiffany ring worth it?'' post. My girlfriend and I have been to nearly 10 decent to higher end jewlers and also to tiffany''s. I know that she wants a princess cut in a solitaire setting. The problem is that neither her nor I are really interested in the "tiffany" name, however, we have been unable to find any jewler that can recreate the tiffany solitaire setting for the princess cut stone on a knife edge style band in platinum. At this point, I''m really tired of going into places on my own with a picture of the tiffany ring that we like and being told that they can''t reproduce it. They all suggest that we get a round diamond since they can reproduce that style setting, but not the princess cut setting. I wish I could post a picture to better explain what it looks like but if you look from a side angle at the tiffany website, you''ll note that the base of the prongs start in the mid line of the straight edges of the princess cut diamond and then meet at the corner of the stone. So its like a V on all sides of the diamond.

Does anyone know of any jewler that has the capability of reproducing this setting? I know I could save like $4000 by not buying at Tiffany''s and we are currently looking at houses so that would be a huge help for piece of mind, but so far my search has been fruitless and I''m starting to be resigned to the fact that I may just have to overspend on a tiffany ring just to get the setting that we both really like.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.
Thanks!!

Hi e,

I''m sorry this has become somewhat laborious for you, no fun! I would suggest contacting this company, they do a lot of custom work, and they are quite familar with Princess cuts. I think if anyone can do it, they can.

Ditto, you can''t go wrong with them...

Ellen and Kaleigh,
Thank you so much for your response. Thankfully I have plenty of time left to get the perfect ring so I imagine the ups and downs of the search will continue. As long as we have this house purchase going on at the same time, it gives me something else to focus on when I get stuck in the search. I will definitely go over their work. Honestly, I had expected it to be much easier to find a similar setting for the princess cut. I don''t put much credence in the tiffany price but the more I ask around and am told that they can''t recreate the setting, the more I start to buy into the tiffany doo-daa

. One thing I can say, both me and my girlfriend really like the way the setting lets the light come in under the princess cut. It just seems to ''pop'' a little more than the other princess cut settings we''ve seen. And honestly, we''ve probably looked at better stones in most of the independent shops we visited than at tiffany. I guess this is all part of the search. Again though, thank you for the info
