Ok, please go easy on me, I''m new. I tried on a couple of engagement rings at Tiffany''s, including a 1 ct. round cut solitare, but this ring was my favorite. It just sparkles like crazy and I just love the look of it. Is this a crazy choice for an engagement ring? Also are pave cut diamonds harder to set? Do VS diamonds sparkle more? I''m just wondering about the price.

I also thought the 1 ct. solitare was gorgous but somehow wasn''t as sparkley to me. Plus the 1 ct. may be a bit out of my fiance''s price range.

Seriously, this ring sparkles like crazy - although I''d like to see it in daylight too, I swear Tiffany and Co. has special lighting everything in there sparkles like mad.

I think it is a beautiful ring and if you love it that is ALL that matters.

I have heard that Tiffany has special lighting in their stores as do many jewelers. In fact, when looking at their pieces, I usually cup my hand around them to block the direct light....anyway, as for your question about using this pretty ring as an e-ring.... if it sings to you and your fiance then, certainly, why not?

I would! I would enjoy this ring whether it were an e-ring or not! Will you wear a wedding ring with it? You could wear a wedding ring on your left hand and this ring on your right....you could wear them together....it''s all personal preference, I feel.

Let us know what you decide and should you buy it, please post pics for us

I lurk on antique jewelry sites, and I''ve seen rings that look almost identical that were someone''s engagment ring from the 1920''s.

Go for it!!

It''s a beautiful piece and I think it would be lovely as an engagement ring!

I agree that you should get a ring which you love! That having been said, you seem to think a 1 ct. stone would be outside your price range. Maybe at Tiffany the cost is high, but with other jewelers, this isn''t the case! You can easily get a 1 ct. GIA/AGS ideally cut stone, G color/S1 clarity for under S5,000, probably under $4500.00. This would allow you to even go up a bit on size, especially if you went to an H color, and still leave a nice margin for an elaborate and beautiful pave mounting, since judging by the T & Co. ring, you seem to like an antigue looking style. That would give you plenty of sparkle.

There IS a difference between the sparkle of small diamonds and a larger single stone, but a well-cut solitaire should knock your socks off. It may be that the stone you looked at wasn''t the best possible cut.

There would be a LOT more intrinsic value and show value in a ring with a significant center stone, and it would be more in keeping with a traditional e-ring. In that Tiffany ring, you are paying a substantial surcharge for that blue box and the reputation of fine jewelry it represents. But many online jewlwers also have excellent reputations, and will give you even more individual attention.

On the other hand, don''t let this burst your bubble. If that is the ring you love...go for it!

Well, I have to say LdyNghtWng has made a good point.

I personally hate to knock Tiffany''s and the like, and truly believe one should get what "sings" to them. And that ring is indeed delightful.

But $7300 is a generous budget, and a beautiful solitaire that probably "out-sparkles" it is easily doable, as long as you stay away from big name designers.

On the other hand, the ring you''re considering is just wonderful, and certainly different from most..

Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

Wow, thanks for the comments. I was a little nervous posting, but I have been reading other threads to try and resolve this.

I would like a Tiffany quality stone, VS1 or VS2 and a good color. I''m really nervous about getting one of those stones that doesn''t really seem to sparkle but is big. Oh and of course being a novice it seems ''easier'' to get a Tiffany ring and be sure the cut is good.

We could probably bump his budget up. I tried on something like a 1.1 that was about 13k at Tiffany, but I think I could go a little smaller to save some money and he''d be willing to move up. I''m also wondering if a 1 ct isn''t a better choice because it goes with everything. I''m not really a conventional girl, so I don''t know how this ring would look if I want to dress edgy for the weekend. I''ve been even thinking of buying a platinum chain to sometimes wear it on. Then again I''m also drooling on the Tiffany pave dragonfly necklace, so I guess I do love the antique look.

(I don''t think I''m being unreasonable since it would still be under 1 month of his salary and he has the cash to pay for it, its just that he comes from a modest background so I think the prices are a bit of a shock, oh and I make good money too, so I''m not a total money pit - its an awkard thing, I''m really into jewelry and have some nice pieces since my family is from the middle east but his family isn''t really into jewelry, i.e. his mom didn''t ''get'' why some of the ladies at work liked seeing that little blue box, so I''m willing to have a low-key wedding but my ring is really important to me).

I think that ring is gorgeous. If it makes your heart sing go for it. But know you are paying a lot more for the blue box, about 40% more. Then again, I can''t talk much as my ering came from Tiff''s. But that was before I found PS.

For $7,150 you could get a .91 F Vs1 Gia Ex/Ex Diamond (Better cut than most Tiffany's) set in an almost exact replica of the platinum tiffany classic solitare from Exceldiamonds.com

Link to diamond.
And if he wired the money since he can pay cash, it'd be $6,983. Plus, don't forget you'd pay sales tax at tiffany but you wouldn't at an online place like Excel.

Or from Whiteflash.com you could get a 1.048 H Vs2 ACA Ideal cut diamond with a tiffany style knife-edge platinum ring for $7880.40.

I love the ring you posted, it''s beautiful! I would love to have it, but not for my E-ring. I''d choose the one Indie posted above and get the ring from Tiffs for an anniversary or B-day.

ooh it's B-E-A-UTIFUL! I would say yes to it in a heartbeat.

Like everyone else has been saying, if you love it, that's all that matters!! (But it probably helps that we're all diggin' it too

ETA: I meant the flower ring, although the solitaire is of course beautiful and classic as well. Then again, 240698752346 other women have just that, and how many women have a ring like the flower ring as their ering?

Wow, those are some tempting solitare options. Are there any retailers in the Washington, D.C. area with those kinds of prices/stones? I would be nervous to buy online without seeing it in person.

I''m still debating. We''re going ring shopping this weekend and Tiffany is sending a ring in my size for me to try on - the one in stock was a little big - so maybe I can get more of a sense of what is out there. My mom & sister like the flower ring because they say that I''m not to conventional anyways, lol.

As someone else mentioned, you may be able to go over to James Allen to view the diamonds in person. Here''s a 1.02 H VS1 for $5660 It may not be something they do, but you can ask!

very beautiful ring, and I think if you love it, you should get it!
But, if you are trying to get ''more bling for your buck'' I would also echo what others have said...don''t go Tiffany''s and get a GREAT solitaire somewhere else!

Oh, don''t get me wrong. I adore the flower ring and think it''s a beautiful and unique choice! I just put those up because you mentioned not being able to afford a really nice 1 carat solitare.
I know how it is when you convince yourself you want a ring because you think it''s the best thing he could afford when you actually, deep down, want something else. I''d managed to convince myself that size wasn''t important to me and that I''d be happy with a 1/3 of a carat in a unique setting. And I would have been happy, but I secretly wanted something a little over a 1/2 carat. So I get an extra thrill now when I look at my .57 carat antique e-ring.

Oh, and I understand your wanting to see something so important and expensive before buying it. However a large number of people on PriceScope have bought from both of those (very trustworthy) vendors and I think practically everyone has been very happy!
