My mother wants to reset (?) her engagement ring from the 70's because it is so dated. Her ring has three stones, one big, two smaller...

We really don't know where to start. I have looked a bit on the internet, but most three stone semi-mounts have the two smaller stones included.

Would a jewelry store be able to help us with a semi-mount? Is a good internet site better?

Is a semi-mount the way we should go? My mother budget is $2000 or less.

Any help and advise would be appreciated!

I'll try to get a pic soon...

Your local jeweler is a good place to start with this project. At least there your Mom could try various styles of three-stone semi-mounts and decide which style she prefers. Once she establishes which style(s) your Mom likes, then maybe from there you can shop around for the best prices both at B&Ms and online vendors.

In addition to those choices that amysbling provided, here are some others you might consider:

http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...tone-trellis-diamond-engagement-ring-1025.htm

I made the above suggestions because they are setting only options, and because you can send your stones there to be set. I believe the same applied to those that amysbling posted as well. There may be other online vendors that carry three stone settings and will allow you to set your own stones in them, but I don't know of any off the top of my head. Good luck with your project!

I think that for $2k, you can get a very nice setting from a custom place. Pick/design the setting that you want (e.g., three stone trellis or whatever), and then ask for the price, then when they give you the price pop out that you are supplying the side stones, and make them knock the price down. ;)

The jeweler should give you some credit for the metal too (if you are resetting it in the same metal). If not, he should buy your metal from you at some reasonable rate.

To find a custom place, you can search PS. For example, in the DC area, there's Dominion Jewelers (no personal experience, but they specialize in resets like this, and advertise it on the radio a LOT) and Quest (really nice work).
