I''ve been looking around quite a bit lately and think I''ve found a ring that she would love that is a bit above my price range.

The ring is a .97kt total (3 diamonds) with a center just over .51k and two on the sides at .23k each. I don''t have all the exact dimensions but the rings diamonds are all Ideal Cuts, G in color and SI1 clarity. The diamonds look great both the naked eye and under 10x.

For the ring with an 18k white gold setting I''ve got the price to $2,900 + tax. (5%) = $3045. It''s still above what I wanted to spend but I think the ring looks great and she would love it.

I know I''ll pay a bit more going to a local jeweler but am I getting ripped off based on the info I have provided?

does the center stone come with a report from GIA or AGS?

Sorry I left that out, unfortunately they are not. This is one of the things that worries me and I meant to mention it. I've seen a lot of info say not even to consider uncertified diamonds.

They said they can certify them for an extra cost, and they certify their more expensive diamonds but did not do the ones I was looking at. (Note: I looked at a good bunch of diamonds from them before these were chosen.) Should I stay away at all costs if they aren't certified? The Jeweler is a family run business that's been there for about 70 years and my family has had great experiences dealing with them before.

Just a bit more info, My budget really is around $2,500 due to us trying to save and buy a house etc. and the fact she'd kill me if she found out I spent over $3,000.

Not sure if this would work or not for you.

White Flash have several options at $14 - $1700 with the same qualities for a center stone, and a 3 stone ring to put it in for $1300. They have a 10 day return policy. Though you''d only save about $200 with WF, my main worry is if something comprable to my local jeweler in price wouldn''t blow away your local guy''s option, when you compare the two. Consider then ordering from WF, walking in with it, comparing the two, and sleep on it. If you like them equally, send the WF one back, and consider you''d done considerable due diligence.

I think 2900 is too much for a stone without lab reports.

Thanks for the help. I am going to go tomorrow and find out whether they will certify it for me at the current price or take off the amount it will take to get it certified. They have a 120 day no questions asked return policy (for whatever method you paid, you don''t just get store credit) so I can always get it certified after I get it. I have not seen any other rings I have liked as much as this one even if it''s a bit out of my price range.

It seems like the ring is at a reasonable price compared to what I''ve seen online, but if I''m way off it''d be nice to know in advance.

I''m a bit weary of buying diamonds online due to being unable to see them and its not possible to get it shipped home and I don''t really trust the work mailroom.

Thanks again for the help.
