I was interested in purchasing a RB stone and I thought everything seemed okay, cut wise. However I read a thread earlier today about the HCA being rather high even though the stone was graded as excellent. So I plugged the numbers in for my possible new stone and it came back as a 6

Needless to say I was a little bummed! Here''s some information from the GIA Mike sent me.

11.67 x 11.71 x 7.35
Table: 57%
Depth: 62.9%
Crown: 34.0
Pavilion: 41.8
Culet: None
Colour: F
Clarity: VVS1
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

Is this stone good or should I keep looking? I cannot seem to find something, in the size I''m looking for, that rates well on the HCA.

Any advice, help, opinions are welcomed.

keep looking. you can do better.

Hi VG,

Yes, I would suggest you keep looking. It''s rather deep, coupled with a very deep pavilion angle. That''s not conducive to a super pretty diamond. I know you can do better.

Are you looking locally or online? I will try to help you find something once I know where you''re looking!

Truthfully, if I were spending that kind of money for a stone, you''d better believe it would be TOP cut quality! The only other thing you might consider (if you can''t find an ideal cut) is buying a stone like this and sending it to WF to have recut to ideal proportions. Then the stone would have to be recertified. But it would result in a magnificent stone!

Budget?

Budget?
When one is looking at stones with these specs, I doubt seriously there are big budget limitations.

And that is a huge stone... around 6c? Probably why it is difficult to find ideal cuts.

Ya, just noticed the SIZE!!!

Anyway, found this on BN. (EDT: this is with strong blue fluor)
62% depth, 57% table, 34° crown angle, 41° pavilion angle, HCA 1.5

Found a slightly smaller AGS0 stone, but it has weird numbers... do not understand how it can be AGS0...
61.9% depth, 56.9% table, 35.9° crown angle, 41.1° pavilion angle, HCA 5.1

AGS Report numbers here, if anyone is interested in deciphering that.

EDT:
The next good candidate is a Faint Blue fluor.

Keep looking! Please don''t spend that kind of money on a so-so cut! You could have the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous diamond for that budget!

I'd like to thank everyone for your advice, opinions and help. My BF wants me to have the absolute best diamond so we'll keep looking until we find it. Also thank you for the links to the suggested stones. We're very interested in them so we'll be checking those out first.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday!!

The first and last look like they are worth bringing home to have an independant appraiser look at. I would definitely ask if all the numbers are correct on that middle one. If so, pass.
