I''m brand new to the forum, but would love some input on this ring. Sorry I can''t put the pictures directly in the post. I plugged the numbers into the HCA and got a 1.4. I know K is a lower color, but I like the warmth of the stone and how it looks with the un-plated white gold.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn''t missing any glaring red flags. Also wanted to make sure the price seems fair.

Thank you!

Looks promising from the numbers but the stone might go dark when viewed closely.

Welcome bento!

It would appear this ring is no longer available, did you buy it? The diamond looks good, it is borderline shallow with the crown and pavilion angles which can mean some of these diamonds can darken at close scrutiny due to a factor called obstruction. This is caused by the viewer's head blocking the light to the stone at close range. However if this wouldn't bother you if the diamond showed this tendency then thats fine.

Thanks Stone-cold and Lorelei! Yes I bought it already, but have 30 days to be sure. It arrived last night and while the setting is a bit dainty for how hard I am on my rings, the stone is lovely.

It faces up nearly as white as my grandmother's G colored stone that I have. Very impressive for a K. Thanks for educating me about the obstruction factor. I had no clue. The diamond looks amazing under incandescent and fluorescent lights and out in the sun. It didn't perform as well in a dim room with a lamp close to it. But when I stood between the lamp and the stone it looked amazing. Decisions, decisions...

Overall it looks really nice and is very white for a K. It also faces up large for it's size, but I guess that's related to the shallow issue you mentioned. What total depth is ideal? This stone is 59.1%. Thank you again!

Also, does the price seem competitive?

Depth depends, around 59% and up to around 62% give or take is normally fine and yes often shallower proportioned stones have less depth. The main thing is you love it, the proportions look ok - if it shows obstruction and it doesn''t bother you then thats absolutely fine - as one esteemed veteran PSer once said, we don''t go around with our heads attached to the diamond! Enjoyment is key and if you love looking at and admiring this diamond then thats a good reason to consider making it a pet rock!

Thanks again, Lorelei for being so helpful! So 59.1% is just on the border of being to shallow. Great to know. I''m not really seeing the stone go dark when I''m up close so I may have a winner!

The setting is way too dainty for my taste now that I have it in person, but I have been doing board searches and am drooling over Coati''s James Meyer bezel. It''s amazing! I wonder if my stone would work in that?

It''s funny how a $1k upgrade on a stone makes you realize you want new setting that at least doubles that price - LOL. And you''re so right about going with my heart on the stone. Thanks again!

Sound good then. Enjoy your new stone. :)
