New to posting on PS, but have been lurking for sometime. I''ve learned a lot from all of you!

Looking at this stone for a simple, solitare platinum setting: http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-1466956.htm

Report: AGS
. Shape: Whiteflash ACA
. Carat: 1.302
. Depth %: 60.4
. Table %: 57.4
. Crown Angle: 34.6
. Crown %: 14.7
. Star : 54
. Pavilion Angle: 40.6
. Pavilion %: 42.7
. Lower Girdle %: 77
. Girdle: Thin to Medium Faceted
. Measurements: 7.07-7.09X4.28
. Light Performance: 0
. Polish: Ideal
. Symmetry: Ideal
. Culet: Pointed

Priorities are cut and clarity. ''I'' color is okay.

Thoughts?

TIA,

Welcome!

Lovely choice, top notch diamond!! I take it you prefer VVS clarity? You may know you could drop to VS without visual sacrifice but if you prefer VVS then feel free to ignore that!

Looks good!

Thanks for the feedback. I understand the VS1/2 (and agree with you), but I lost that arguement. One must learn to pick their battles

Does she realize she could get bigger if she lowered the clarity?

Just kidding, sorta. The stone is fine.

Yes, she realizes it. We looked at a pretty decent amount of stones at a handful of B&Ms, and the VS1 or better stones consistantly caught her eye (realistically it was probably due to cut, although all stones were typically GIA ''excellent''). In her defense, she''s willing to trade carats for clarity, although I''m hoping to surprise her by with a bigger stone such as this one.

It''s a gorgeous stone--you are very thoughtful to get her what she wants.

There might be a bit of what we call "mind clean" going on too (you need to KNOW it's not very included). And as you said, cut. Because in a very well cut stone, you can go WAY down and still have a stunning, totally eyeclean stone. I"ll post a pic of an SI2, totally eyeclean as an example. I'm by no means trying to talk you into one, but I know that well cut stones with lower clarity, and stones you find in malls/private jewelers, can be two different things. I'm not sure what all you've actually seen.

I love this, a 2+ ct. J SI2, compliments of LynnB.

Lynn''s stone is insane!

I too feel that VVS is overkill, and that VS and eyeclean SI is great, but it sounds like the future fiance has thought about it enough to go down in color--so she might just want VVS for another reason. But then again, showing her gorgeous macro shots of eyeclean SI stones may also make an impact.

Ok no problem LOL, if VVS is what she prefers then that is what she should have!!! In that case the above diamond could be a definite contender!

I looked at a few more stones, and WF even pulled four I was considering and ''polled'' some of their employees. In the end, it was down to this 1.302 I VVS2 and a 1.211 I VS1. The smaller (and slightly less clear) stone was definitely less expensive, but in the end I stuck with the 1.302. Hopefully I''ll have it around the end of next week, or early the following week. I''ll be sure to put my amature photographer skills to work and snap a picture or two.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback to my post, and more importantly, thanks to the PS web site for the education!
