Here's the full spec in case you don't want to find the report number:

HCA 1.4, EX EX VG VG.
GIA EX VG EX
0.5 carat
D colour
VS2 >>> feather,crystal,cloud (eye clean)
Faint FL >>> shouldn't impact at all?
Measurements
5.13 - 5.16 x 3.10 mm
Depth 60.4%
Table 59%
Crown Angle 34%
Crown Height 14%
Pavilion Angle 40.8%
Pavilion Depth 43%
Star Length 50%
Lower Half 80%
Medium to slightly thick faceted girdle, 3.5%
No culet

It seemed to sparkle less than a HCA 3.9 EX EX EX (GIA) 0.54 which I was a little surprised at, perhaps was just the lighting/needed cleaning? Don't have full spec of the 2nd diamond sorry. Anyway, thoughts on this diamond? No pics I'm afraid.

Thanks.

Ah that makes a lot of sense. Thanks a lot for the reply, you're one of my favourite posters on here ^_^. No IdealScope image yet, I can ask but I think they might be confused lol. UK Jewelers seems less sophisticated than American ones for some reason (hard to find ones with magnified images/ASET images/idealscope).

If I am unable to get an idealscope, would you say It's a no-go? I am wondering if you know of many diamonds that have been much different to both HCA and GIA excellent scores. By the way, although the diamond definitely had a different look to it, I did still like it and I am therefore very interested.

Thank you so much for your kind words! You made my day.
It's not a no-go for the lack of idealscope. Not all vendors have them.

But I am concerned that your eyes didn't love the stone. 60/60's aren't for everyone.

Can your dealer get you additional stones to look at ones with more Tolkowsky proportions?

Maybe give the below to your vendor as a guideline:

depth - 60 - 62% - although up to 62.4% is okay if everything else is in good proportion
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above

note - with crown and pavilion angles at the shallower ends ( CA 34- PA 40.6) and steeper ( CA 35- PA 41) check to make sure these angles complement in that particular diamond - HCA, eyeballs, etc. If they fall out of HCA, discard them.

Thank you again for the reply :). A lot to consider there, I will discuss it with my vendor and see how I feel about the different types. I think that unless I buy from James Allen, I will probably go for a GIA excellent cut and make sure it is also an HCA excellent and just make sure that I really like the look of it and not worry about the Idealscope. Currently unable to visit the store for a week so will probably find a few others that I like the look of and will post on PS for comparison.
