Edit: looks like there's a lot on pricescope with EGL certification for similar/lower prices.... so I guess the question really is, what's up with EGL?

It's a wholesaler in Dallas... huge wholesale warehouse I've been referred to.

Price: $12,726.00

Shape: Round Brilliant
Weight: 2.02 Carats
Color: I
Clarity: VS1
Measurement: 8.07 * 5.00
Depth: 62.2%
Table: 57%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: No Blue
Certificate: EGL

Considering I'm not very color sensitive, I works fine for me especially with a VS1 clarity and what looks to be a triple EX cut.

How is EGL anyway? I read on here that they tend to be more lenient?

Anyway, just a general thought of the diamond and price really because I rarely see 2 carats for under $13,000.... hell even $13500 or $14000 even.

EGL is looser in terms of grading color and clarity. Expect that stone to be of J-K-L Vs2-SI-SI2 GIA quality. Take that into consideration. Now look for comparable with those stats to see the pricing...

Also- not sure how great that cut is....

Typically excellent-ideal cut RB face up at 8.2*8.2.... so that stone seems to be a tad deeper than an ideal cut- but may still be within the excellent cut range. You need to enter the info into the HCA calculator.

notice how that EGL doesn't provide all the information to determine how well it is cut....

1. If he's selling to you, a private member of the public, he's not really in wholesale, then :)) semantics that you don't need to worry about other than to realize that vendors claiming "wholesale" doesn't necessarily equal best deal around, or even good deal. It all depends on the stone.

2. Do you have the cert number? Crown and pavilion listed would be useful... have you seen the stone in person, and do you like it? A lot of the cheat sheets around here list 62 as a depth cutoff, and you're losing the tiniest (invisible) bit of spread by getting a deeper stone, but moderate depth by itself won't negatively affect light return.

Yssie- you said it better than I could. It seems like its a tad deep- but very well may still be in the excellent cut range according to HCA, it's just that it's facing up more like a 1.9something as opposed to a 2ct. Not that big of a deal, you just need to ensure that it is not negatively impacting the fire and scintiliation of the stone.

Like Yssie said- you need to know what you are getting. Since EGL is more lenient- just prepare yourself for the fact that this stone may actually be more like an J-K Vs2-SI1 GIA graded stone.

If you see this stone in person and love it- then go for it. Best advice is to educate yourself- but also trust your eyes. Know what you are getting and get what you like.
