Carat: 0.8 (is this okay for a size 5.5?)
    Colour: E

Welcome to Pricescope! I hope you’ll search other posts regarding diamond size vs ring sizes..but to get you started here’s a link to help you enter the dimension of a diamond and how it will appear on a particular ring size:https://www.diamdb.com/
And is your budget include the ring and diamond or just the diamond. Are you in a hurry to get your ring because of a specific timeframe or do you have time to spare?

Thank you for the warm welcome :). Budget includes the ring and yes a bit time constrained... that is want to make a decision by end of week but have over a month however!

Im more concerned about things like wasting money on colour that isnt right or getting a clarity that is unnoticeable in difference therefore spending more than needed!

Hi, if you’re thinking of a simple 4 prong setting (a classic style) you’ve got about $5,400 for the diamond. Once you start thinking of custom made settings or halo diamonds/ diamond around the shank the cost of your setting starts being in the thousands$.
I’m no diamond guru, but is there a reason why you’re choosing an E? To most people an H is plenty white enough.
And you can go down to SI if it’s eye clean (diamonds are graded at 10x which is more magnification than the unaided eye can see).
If you go down in colour and down in clarity (still being white and clean) you can get a diamond closer to 1 carat.
A .81 diamond is a great size for a 5.5 finger but for more more, I’d prefer a bit bigger.

Reason i chose E and VS1 was because i was told this was the ideal range if i could be a bit more lenient on budget! But to be honest i dont know what is what. Im looking for a nice white clean diamond, willing to go slightoy premium but not to the point its impossible to notice.

0.8 was more of a guesstimate from what ive seen, she liked (heard from friends of friends). She wanted 0.7 so i opted for 0.8 haha

You definitely don't need E/vs1 unless there are cultural reasons. You will get a very white and eye clean diamond if you get an ideal cut G/vs2 or eye clean SI1.

Another thought that since this is a once in a lifetime purchase please take some time and educate yourself. Read all you can about what makes a diamond special! Note that many jewelers and prosumers will discuss about the 4C’s - cut, clarity, color, carat... but don’t be fooled Cut is very and I say most important. You will do your diligence if you spend some time reading and studying by using the search feature above. Education links :https://www.whiteflash.com/about-diamonds/

    https://www.jannpaul.com/content/category/knowledge

    Video:

And don’t be told what to do or you may end up making an unsatisfactory purchase! So be sure to read, ask questions on the forum and use the search feature. Ask better questions such as why was I told E is a preferred range in color? What is the color (scale) for a diamond? What is VS1? (Clarity) why should I need a VS1 clarity in a diamond? And stick to your budget because you will see gorgeous larger more expensive diamonds but you can also get a gorgeous beautiful diamond in your budget!✌️

Wow that tiffany solitaire stye looks amazing. That design and also the equisite half round look incredible. Im settling for one of the two!

For the diamond im probably going to have to reduce my budget as i realised theres taxes and fees involved since im from Australia. So if my budget was roughly 5k just for the diamond, what could i get? If i sacrificed a little on colour maybe an F? and the carat to 0.8?

Don’t forget to get the seller to sort out the AUSFTA paperwork so you don’t have to pay the extra 5% if you are from Australia. You’ll still need to pay gst and the standard customs fee, but it’s a decent saving for a big purchase.

If your budget allows I would go for a super ideal round.

Knowing what expectations your girlfriend has is a good place to start.

Yeah her expectations are 0.7-0.8 carat but cut, clarity and colour expectations arent known. Basically a beautiful 6 claw diamond solitaire ring.

These 2 that I previously listed are under $5k.

But if you want to go lower and stay in Super Ideals there are also these options.

    https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-4150006.htm

You can contact WF and ask for side-by-side pictures to have a better look at the stones. They are Super Ideals with AGS000 (Ideal light return) grading,
Idealscope, H&As and ASET images. Everything one needs to ensure their performance. That's the nice thing about Super Ideal stones. Takes the guesswork
    out of it.
FYI...this is a relative look at what one of these .8 stones would look on a size 5 finger with a 2mm shank ring.

The size looks just right IMO but no expert haha. Is there a way to get an equivalent diamonds from.blue nile? Only reason i ask is im sold on this design. So 0.8 carat you showed me, F/G, VS2? Or is white flash's cuts superior?

    https://www.bluenile.com/au/build-your-own-ring/six-claw-petite-nouveau-ring-platinum_19009

However cant find the design in white flash (the width and thickness looks much thicker on white flash).

White flash is very much superior to blue Nile. Amazing upgrade policies, and their bench is more skilled. In a sub 1ct diamond you can safely go with a G color and eye clean SI1, especially if her color preferences aren't known. 99% of people will find G color extremely white.

Edit. Looks like tyty picked the biggest and best ones in your budget that are available right now from WF

I really think you need to get your girlfriend's input on what is important to her if you haven't already. If so, disregard my advice. Some people value size over color, or have a specific diamond shape that they love.

Congrats on your upcoming engagement.

I have a new .8 N colored SI1 stone from Brian Gavin set in rose gold that I wear on my size 7 finger. My 25 year old daughter wears a size 5.5 ring and thinks it looks really big on her hand...

Yes i do have her expectations thankfully which has narrowed my search!

And thank you for the well wishes, quite anxious about this whole process (if she would like the ring, timing and how to propose!)

She would definitely love something bigger, but they have a pretty tight budget. She was happy to see that such a low color stone could be so beautiful and look so big, but still be affordable for them.

Yes im actually talking with a whiteflash rep now, my main concern isnt the diamond amymore as tyty has given some amazing suggestions! However the ring design is where im working out now... the design in blue nile is the exact one i want but i cant find a design on white flash that has the same thiness that the blue nile has which is what i know my girlfriend wants (see link below).

    https://www.bluenile.com/au/build-your-own-ring/six-claw-petite-nouveau-ring-platinum_19009

If i could get your help again tyty or anyone, could we find a similar diamond on blue nile? And if not white flash?

    0.80 carat
    Colour F/G
    Clarity VS2
    Budget 4500usd
    Cut: Best possible given above

Talk to WF about the setting you like and they can help you find something that works. You won't find a diamond from BN that is as good as WF, especially given the upgrade policy and superior customer service.

If you're set on BlueNile, this diamond seems like a good choice.
    https://www.bluenile.com/build-your...MONDS&track=viewDiamondDetails&action=sameTab

It does have medium blue fluorescence and I'm not sure if your girl is ok with fluorescence or not. I wouldn't be too concerned because it's not strong fluorescence but I just wanted to point it out.

If I personally had your budget I would go with White Flash. I wanted to get a princess cut from them but it was just out of the budget. I went with James Allen and I'd suggest them over BlueNile, too, from all the research I've done.
