I have a EGL-USA rated I diamond, but it's really closer to a GIA J. It does face up very white and I don't tend to notice much color, especially not from a distance. It's a 2.5 carat RB set in a platinum cathedral setting. I've decided on an eternity band for my wedding ring, but I'm worried that stones that are F-G (seems to be most common in pre-fabricated eternity rings) will make my I-J engagement ring seem too yellow by comparison.

Will it be hard to source many I-J stones for a custom eternity band?

What color are the stones in your eternity band if you have a I-J color diamond? Did you have one custom made with higher color stones? What would you recommend?

Small melee diamonds will always look whiter than a larger ct weight diamond, even if you match the colors exactly, it is just the nature of how the return light. In reality, with such small diamonds you will not see much body color anyways, espcially since the setting will cover the pavilions (unless you plan on getting diamonds larger than 10 pts I think.

I have a K color solitaire and H-I color diamonds in my half-eternity (search for "dreamer baby ring" and you can see pics). Yes, the eternity looks whiter, but it doesn''t bother me at all. My ring is from BGD and they offer H-I melee in all of their rings if you prefer.

I have an I color princess cut and a 5 stone that is F color, I dont notice the color difference to much....

I think it will not be noticeable.

My center stone was an I color set on an eternity band that has F/G stones. The center was 2.04 and the band stones are .04. Then I switched my center stone to a 2.52 J stone and kept the same setting and in both cases I can''t see any noticeable color difference. I think you should be fine.
There are pictures of my ring old and new, just check under my name...hope that helps

I think it really depends on your personal tolerance - when I tried on eternities with F-G 2-7 pointers with my 2ct I, I saw a clear difference in colour. To me, it wasn't just that my stone had slightly more tint, it was that having that blazing white row of melee right beside it completely eliminated the "whitening effect" of having a fantastic cut, and my stone just looked beige from all angles, and not in a good way

. Trying to wear them together all the time would drive me up the wall.

I have a light pink diamond band I thought I might wear with my e-ring sometimes - it makes my stone look even more beige than bright white melee. It's been banished to my RH

I think the problem is the modern RB cut - it's stark and precise, and warrants that same in all other aspects. In a cushion, for example, or an OEC, playing up that off-white antique beauty would fit the character of the stone perfectly.

Brian Gavin Diamonds offered me H-I coloured melée when I bought my 5 stone ring.

i have a J 2.13 and pair it with a semi-eternity band. i don''t remember what color the stones are off hand, but i know they aren''t J. probably not even close. it was a concern of mine when they were making my band, but i didn''t really have a choice since the smaller aca''s weren''t in J''s. now that it''s done, i don''t see it as a problem at all

I have a J center (1.73) with semi eternity F-G stones .10 stones. I really cannot see a difference!

Did you ever wear your band with a higher colored solitaire? I ask because as I mentioned, small melee diamonds always look whiter than larger diamonds because of the nature of the light return in the smaller versus larger size.

Gleam, it really does depend on how color sensitive you are. For some ladies, it wouldn''t matter if the two rings were a "few" color grades apart, and for others - it would drive them crazy.

As a rule of thumb, jewelers try to stay within one color grade of each other when deciding on side stones for e-ring mountings or making coordinating wedding bands. In your case, I would definitely go with someone who can create a band for you in H/Is.

Dreamer - no, I've only every tried on bands with the "I". I don't think I could ever wear an eternity with my Ering for just that reason, actually, unless it was made with L-M melee or something... or if my Ering was a D

.

I'm pretty sure that the "beige-ing" effect I noticed was somewhat exaggerated in part due to the tint in my particular stone - my stone's tint is very yellow. I know brown is harder for the human eye to make out, so perhaps if I had an "I" that was faintly brown, it would be different? An old poster pqcollectibles had a 1.25 J from blueish rough, maybe with that as a backdrop even D melee would be too yellow

I have a GIA I color center diamond. I can tell a difference between the colors in my bands. it took me a while though, at first I could not notice the difference. I guess I'm more color sensitive than I used to be. It doesn't bother me at all, I kinda like it & think it depends on your preference

I think diamond obsessed people like us on pricescope might notice it more but in the real world, no one will be able to tell. Most people out there are wearing diamonds in the lower color range but I can't tell on their hand. I wanted to post this picture, it's not mine but it's a genuine Tiffany set and the color grades are exactly the same, larger diamonds in certain light just look darker than smaller ones, NO MATTER WHAT COLOR they are. Smaller diamonds also look whiter, it's a given no matter what color grade they are. I would guess the majority of women are wearing a whiter band than diamond and it really doesn't matter. With all that sparkle, who cares?

Thank you, everyone. Hope to hear more thoughts, too!

Makemepretty, that''s a great example. Thanks for posting.

I find it noticable, but not bothersome: I''m fairly color-sensitive, but I know it''s noticable to the non-jewelry-obsessed, to, as both my mom and my husband commented. It didn''t bug me per se, as I actually like warm diamonds (not something I''m trying to "pass" with!), but it did make me wonder if it made for a jarring two-tone effect. So now I wear my all-diamond band as a RHR, and bands that alternate stone-and-metal or sapphire-and-diamond with my e-ring. Go and try on as many things as you can before you commit!

Hey Gleam, I have a 2.57 I and I wear it with a 10 pt eternity band from Facets. The eternity band is F-G colored stones and I really don''t notice huge difference. At first I did, but very quickly I didnt notice
it anymore. I don''t think it is a problem. The stones in the eternity band are so much smaller that your solitare it is just not that big of a deal. I previously had a J and it didnt bug me with that. I think
you can see my J with it in a previous thread about ''Miss Sparklie''. Sorry I am really lame and am not sure how to link it for you
