It''s a 1.38 RB J VS1 that scores a 1.5 on the cut advisor. Here are the specs:

60.7% depth, 58% table, 35.7° crown angle, 40.6° pavilion angle, .6% culet

GIA cert shows Very Good polish and Very Good symmetry and measures 7.15-7.22X4.36

Price is $59xx. What do you guys think? It may be the one...(crossing fingers)

According to the HCA, this is an FIC, which can be harder to find. I personally love the fire in a diamond, more than the white light flashes, but it is personal preference. However, the stone has more than .1mm variation in the diameter, which doesn''t bode well for the cut precision. This could be worth checking out in person, but I would make sure it has a good return policy, and take it to an appraiser (or have it sent to an appraiser before you purchase it -- even better.) Look at it in all different lights.

cascadejim,

That is a great price for that diamond. You can spend the next six months trying to do better, or accept that you just found a diamond better than 99% of the stuff sold in this country for 1/3rd less than what you might have paid before the internet came along...

Hi Lop
The variation in diameter is only 0.07 mm (7.15-7.22 mm) - 0.97%.

Hi, I'm new here but my boyfriend and I just went ring shopping. It is exhausting looking at all these diamonds.

I think you should go with a smaller diamond at a higher quality. J in color is a noticeable yellow. Go for a F or G in color and VVS2 in clarity. Remember that a .90 - .93 looks almost like a 1.00. The diamond only sounds like a deal because it's quite big in size, but that's all it's really got. If she's into size, then go for it. A diamond from a .9 to a 1.0 carat can jump up around $3000 depending on quality. She'll be excited that it's a huge rock.

We came across .93 (6.2xmm - 6.3xmm, remember 6.4mm is 1.00 carat) ideal cut, GIA certified, F in color, VVS2 in clarity, symmetry is excellent, polish is excellent, shows the hearts & arrow in perfect symmetry and distance for $5700. We also found a .80 carat, but E in color and IF in clarity. Symmetry and Polish are Very Good. GIA cert for $4900.

Whoops -- sorry -- must have read it wrong. Ignore that part of my post! Without that being an issue, this looks like a nice stone. You just have to be sure you are ok with the color (which many people are, there are just some color-sensitive people out there.)

Many people who have posted here are very happy with a J color. If the stone is well cut, as this one seems to be, the sparkle will mask the color to some degree. Not all J stones are yellow. As to clarity, VS1 should be very clean to the naked eye and there are many SI stones that are eye clean. I would not sacrifice size to go up in clarity.

The stone sounds well priced according to the Jim Shultz ,the diamond dealer, who was kind enough to post here.

If you look in Show Me The Ring, you will see several J color stones that look very beautiful.

Thank you all so much for the replys, especially Jim, your opinion coming from a diamond dealer, means a lot.

I have looked at the J color stones, but you can't really get a feel for color over the computer, there are so many variables such as my computer settings, the setting of the cameras that took the photo, the lighting, etc., etc. I'm going to a B&M tonight to take a look.

Hi CascadeJim,

The proportions on this one look to be pretty good. The reflective/refractive properties of this diamond will help neautralize its color HOWEVER don''t commit until you''ve had a chance to see the color of this diamond for yourself and make sure you''ll be happy with it once all is said and done. I emphasize seeing this diamond in particular becuase if you go to other jewelry stores to view J colors and they are not cut to flattering proportions you may get a bad taste for J''s in general and reject this stone. Attached is a simulated FS image of what you potentially have. Variances and minor facet cutting can change the appearance from slight to dramatic so a physical inspection is encouraged.

Peace,

Thank you so much! Wow, that looks real nice. I am very excited. I''m on the phone first thing tomorrow morning.

Cascadejim- while I highlyu recommend going to look at colors in real person, one thing you have to watch for is that many J stones you will se at B&M''s are not of the best cut, so may REALLY show their color. When a stone has an excellent cut, it tends to hide color (at least in a round). So, while you are looking at J''s, also look at H''s and I''s so that if the person you are dealing with tells you that it faces up lighter than a J you have a point of reference in your head.

Storm- you captured perfectly the feeling of being sucked into the pricescope world. Now whenever I hear Hotel California I will think of PS when that line comes up....great! Just what I needed something else to make me think about PS

I have a 1.25 carat J color ideal cut diamond set in platinum. Well cut J''s can offer great bang for the buck and really allow you maximize your budget.

J color diamonds you see in most Maul stores and many B&M''s are not the best cuts. Those diamonds will show color when an ideal cut diamond doesn''t. It''s something you really must see to believe.

The diamond you posted scores well on the HCA. Have you discussed it with the Vendor?? What are the Vendor''s eyes seeing and telling you about the diamond. If the Vendor says the diamond is a killer, it could well be worth looking at yourself.

Well the vendor is bringing in the diamond to take some pictures, etc. Hopefully I ''ll have some posted up for us all to share.
