This may be a dumb question...

Can a round be re-cut into a cushion?

I know re-cuts come with risk--but is it 'possible'?

I'd guess that any shape could be recut into any other shape, but the issue is whether the weight loss is acceptable to you.

Can anyone offer an approx. percentage that might be lost? I realize that this may not be possible without seeing the gem in question.

im guessing but it could be as much as 25%-i had a chipped stone repaired-small chip but recut/polish used almost 1/2ct lost material-was an andesine which is soft to start with-u said cussion to a round-lots of corners-steve...

Ditto above. Unless you start w/a honkin' big stone, you might end up w/something pretty small. And what would the re-cut do to quality -- window, extinction, etc.?

Indy, I had a 9 x 11mm oval (I don't remember the depth dimension, but it was a very deep keel cut pavilion), and ended up with a 6.7mm cushion. Hope that offers some perspective.

It is possible, however the weight loss would be extreme more than likely in the 25-50% range depending on the starting dimensions such as depth.

It probably depends on the two cuts.

I'd guess the greatest weight loss may be cutting a long emerald cut into a round - or a round into a long emerald cut.
