So ive decieded to settle on 4500 for a diamond budget. Ive been looking for a diamond with ideal cut, around a carat in size colorless-near colorless in range, VS1 to VS2. Its so hard to find what im looking for though. Expecially when I cant see the diamonds...because im overseas. So if you had 4500 as your diamond budget...what would you get? Ive been dealing with a representative from whiteflash, he has been very helpfull..but I just cant make a decision. I just want to get the best for my money. Will H in color still look white with a platinum band? Or should I stick with G+?

Since you're already working with Whiteflash, you might at least ask them about this one diamond (also available as a listed diamond through several other vendors). I'm not sure what causes some diamonds not to be called in vs being called in -- and in the case of Whiteflash -- becoming either an ACA stone or even a value stone...but this one, priced at $4352 via a Pricescope discount (tell them you saw it on this db), may have most all the features you've mentioned, to include VS2, G, .96 in weight, and with some reference to AGS0 per the constraints you can apply on the Pricescope database.

You could ask the people at Whiteflash what you think about at least ordering it up for you, and comparing it to what they already have in house, and getting their recommendation after the fact.

Best wishes,

I have aleady contacted whiteflash about that diamond, im just waiting for a response. Here are the 3 im looking at right now.

The other two are EGL though, and im not sure about that. Im not dead set on whiteflash, but their representatives have been most helpful.

So do ALL Is/Js look good with platinum? I was afraid the color might show. Thats like why I was wanting to stay with a H or G+. But I did like the J. Thanks for making my decision even harder...lol. Oh what to do..lol

I think that an "H" color is fine as long as it's a true "H". I saw that you mentioned EGL. EGL has been known to be off a color grade or two. So there is a chance that an EGL graded "H" could actually be an "I" or "J". If I were you I would go with GIA to ensure that your diamond has been accurately graded. A GIA graded "H" or "I" would look fine in platinum. You can go with a "G", but I don't neccessarily think that it's needed. That really comes down to preference. So in my opinion a GIA graded "H" or "I" is fine, but a "J" may be risky since your going with platinum. Good luck...

with that budget, I'd call Mark & ask him to run a sarin on this puppy

Id go with a G VS2 in your case. Whiteflash can tell if its a sparkler.

1) Buy a well cut stone that scores under 2.0 on the HCA

2) Buy the highest color you can afford, in the lowest clarity you can tolerate. For most people VS clarity is overkill, so you might consider an "eye-clean" SI clarity stone. Any of the reputable pricescope dealers can confirm an SI stone under consideration is eye clean.

In my experience (and everyone has different color tolerations) stones looked like this:
D-G: clearly white
H: generally white
I: a slight darker yellow tint barely detectable
J: ugggh... turned me off.

No, not all J's look good with platinum. Finding a good J is a bit of a treasure hunt with the key being a good cut. It's more work but the lower price is the reward

My suggestion is to pick a vendor that has several diamonds in-house that interest you, maybe a G and an H or I. They will pull the stones and compare them for you over the phone. Then send it to a local appraiser where you make your final decision

You should go to the "Show Me The Ring" forum...there are lots are several "J" diamonds there, including mine (which is also my avatar). My only recommendation with a "J" is that you get an ideal cut.....

Great info, thanks for all the help. Im trying to get some actual pics of the stones that im interested in. So when I do, I'll post them up.
I and J are a def possiblity, i just want to see the stone first.
