I'm currently looking at buying my fiance's wedding band. He's looking at a 4mm flat band, probably comfort fit, and I'm not sure what thickness is best. I've seen a lot varying from 1-2mm, and the front runner is 2mm.

My e-ring band is about 2mm thick at the top, and that seems pretty thick for a plain band, the 1.3mm at the bottom seems more appropriate, but I wasn't sure if too thin would be too sharp and uncomfortable?

Does anyone have experience as to what's best?

For a 4 mm band, I'd prefer something chunkier, like 2 mm thick.

If you go too thin, the band may seem much less sturdy. If he wants a chunky ring, I think it's better to go chunky all the way. It might be a good idea to have him try on some styles to see what feels most comfortable to him.

Unfortunately, trying to get him into a jewellery store is like trying to pull hen's teeth... We actually ended up ordering cheap rings off ebay for sizing, and checking that 4mm was a good size, but they're all way too thin, less than 1mm.

I don't think he wants chunky, that's why I think 2mm might be too thick - he has never worn any rings so comfort is also a factor. Just something that'll last and look normal.

I bought the ring I thought would look best on my husband and wouldn't "bother" him too much. I got a 6 mm comfort fit band in white gold. I think it's around 2 mm thick. He has never complained of it being too thick, but he does have large fingers (size 12.5).
