Well after my huge problem yesterday they fixed my ring and refunded my money. BUT now it is obvious that my ring has been altered. I am devastated that it is less than perfect.
My fiancée is upset and says that I am not getting a new setting. So I think that the only way I am going to be happy is if I get a new setting. Considering I am going to have to pay for it myself ( I am pretty sure at least) I need something relatively inexpensive $600 or less. I have the Blue Nile comfort fit 18 carat white gold 4 prong solitaire setting.
I like it pretty well, although I wish the band were 2 mm instead of 2.5 mm. Maybe even 1.9mm. Also as an RN it sits a bit high but I am getting used to it and I actually like it. (I think). So maybe I could just get a different shank and keep the platinum head?
I want to keep the solitaire and four prongs. My overall goal is very delicate and I want the diamond to look as big as possible. (It’s not admirable but true). I have heard over and over that the white gold has rhodium plating and it has been recommended, since I can not afford platinum now, to get white gold with a hard alloy to keep the ring looking very white.
My diamond is a 1.17 ideal J SI1 from Blue Nile as well. My ring was ordered in a size 4 but I think that a 3.75 would be better.
I really appreciate any help or suggestions. I will try and post some pictures of my ring ( this was before I was crazy and made the huge mistake of taking it to the jewelry store) I am horrible with cameras and feel like I am not doing it justice. Thank you so much.

What city are you in?

I live in Bremerton WA, Very close to Seattle, I thikn that I could even order online if that is a good idea.

You probably should do it locally at this time - most internet companies usually will only set stones they have sold, and shipping and insurance will chip away at your budget. Let''s wait and see who can come up with a good local jeweler!

Really.. they will only set stones they sold? That seems weird to me? Maybe not? Thanks for the help. Leslie

You don't want to have to send your diamond somewhere in the mail to have it set, do you? So it is logical to buy the setting locally. Most online diamond vendors are not discounting settings much anyway. Not worth it unless you do it when you buy the stone. But anyway, 18k solitaire settings are not very expensive. You'll easily be able to get one for $300-400, maybe less if you want a very thin setting.

I ditto having it set locally. Take your time and shop around for settings. Make sure to get your finger sized properly as well. Good luck!!!

Hi Notdocyet,

I live in Seattle. My e-ring was purchased online from Whiteflash, however, I have had my ring checked and polished free of charge from a downtown jewelry repair shop. He has also redipped my ring (white gold, 4 prong solitare) once for about $20. This place fixes, repairs jewelry, and does some custom design work. The shop is located on 5th ave. near the Westin hotel.

jared''s can fix you up with a plain setting like that.

Whoever sets it, I would make absolute sure that they agree to take full responsiblility for your diamond while they are setting it, were it to chip. This is not common but it can happen. Get it in writing.
