Thanks DF, although since I'm such a neophyte, I do have a question: when you say only 3 different shapes of AGS0 cuts, are not others included as AGS0 cuts? For example, GOG's AVC's are graded by AGS, see an example attached, what is the difference I'm wondering? Is it a categorical definition? I'm sort of confused here, please bear with me....thanks in advance

Hmmm..I guess there are (4) different shapes now?..

maybe any shape of stone with light performance ideal 0 + Polish ideal 0 + Symmetry ideal 0 = AGS ideal 0 cut grade?..

I guess I just thought AGS would grade any diamond cut, but when I saw your post I thought, well, maybe I really did know exactly. Maybe someone may have an opinion or another explanation to offer!

The offer a service where if your design has the performance or you work with them until it does it can get AGS0.

"The performance-based cut grade is available for Round Brilliant, Princess, Oval, Emerald and Cushion-shaped diamonds."
As well as custom designs which are not listed there.
Each shape has a slightly different standard.

Octavia ags0 is based on the square emerald standard even though it blows the min. standards for se out of the water and could get ags0 on the stricter princess scale and other than contrast on the even stricter RB scale.
It gets a slight contrast deduction on the RB scale sometimes.
I never could figure out why.

I don't know the exact number DF. I doubt anyone outside of AGS does.
My guess is 10-12 if you lump all RB and princess into 2 groups.

Measure of red blue green and black in virtual ASET from a 3d scan from face up to 45 degrees tilt.
First with 30 degrees obstruction then 40.
40 degree is weighted less than 30. Different tilts are weighted differently.
Then do some propitiatory math and spit out a grade.

woops I missed it, they do mention custom cuts on that page. It must have changed at some point:

"For diamond companies who have developed unique and patented cut designs, the AGS Laboratories offers the opportunity to provide a specialized proprietary version of the Platinum Diamond Quality® Document, featuring the company's own logo on the face of the document."
