The thing that bugs me most

...is when I can hear a person near me chewing, crunching, GNAWING their food. GAAAAAHHHHHHHHH OMG i want to tear my hair out or cut off my own ear.

Maybe i''m just intolerant or have super fantastic hearing. But hearing people eat really bug me.

La la la la *happy thoughts*

Anyone else need to vent?

I have really good hearing and it bothers me too, I can ignore strangers but when my mom does it I get grossed out! Idk why, but I''m working on it. I''d never say anything to my mom about it, she''d get upset

What about people who chew with their mouths hanging open? I''ve seen whole families at very expensive restaurants do that. They chew REALLY loud, too.

Well, they chew with a loose jaw so the mouth never fully closes and everyone around them gets to see the food swirling around like a front loading washing machine. You usually can hear the lips smack. But I guess their mouths aren''t actually hanging open. They are just open more than closed!

I hate seeing someone chew gum. I hate chewing gum with a passion, and when I see someone''s jaw working, working.. I just want to scream. Inevitably on the train in the morning someone sits right in front of me chewing gum, and I usually get up and move to another seat where I can''t see them.

I have a slight variation of this ... I can''t stand when metal flatware clanks against someone''s teeth. YOWWWWWCH! It drives me INsane. Why can''t all silverware be, um, PLASTIC. And, for goddsake people, when you''re eating: watch your AIM.

This is one of my biggest Pet Peeves and I have ruled out eating with people because of it. It is horrible manners, and it is disgusting.

I''m also grossed out by loud mouth breathers (unless they''re running) GROSS.

I try really hard not to have my mouth open with food in it in public (I am consciously aware of how others think about it - my husband hates it) but if you have never chewed your food with your mouth open you''re missing out. Smell being such a big part of taste - when you have your mouth open enough to breathe through your mouth it sends way more scent to your olfactory system and actually intensifies the taste of food. I think this is why in other cultures slurping and other habits are common. Try it alone sometime...

Agree on the eating thing. Also eating while on the subway always grossed me out..bad enough being cramped in, I have to watch / smell what you''re eating?

I also have a weird pet peeve--people who whistle! Especially at work...it''s so annoying! Oh and loud flip flops behind me..wow I have alot of pet peeves.

I remember in college having to listen to to this one guy from my dorm smack and chew a poor innocent sandwich to death in a quiet library. It was so gross I had to leave. The grossest part was when he'd open his mouth to take in more ammunition for his foul activity - and all the food would part like it was being peeled off his palate like a fruit roll up being peeled off the wrapper. Again and again. Even now, the memory gives me goosebumps. For years, I'd wake up in the middle of the night screaming from the trauma of it all. Just kidding! But it was baaaaaad!

I get grossed out seeing people eating hamburgers or sandwiches in their cars. Makes me want to barf! People dont realize how they look when they scarf
down food in their car. EEEW!

I have a son, who has a brain injury that sometimes smacks when he chews. Poor guy, everyone in the family at the same time will STOP THAT!!!!. Makes him
aware because he doesnt realize it.

GGGGaaaahhhh! that bugs me too. My husband will do that to me. On the phone! He will call me and be eating. To talk about nothing. It irritates the crap out of me. Eating noises are so disgusting. Slurping and chewing. Did you ever see that clip where it showed that slow motion where when you take a bite of food the millions of food particles and germs that go flying? When you think about it, eating in public is actually replusive. Add the noises and it is enough to drive you to the mad house.

On top of being totally gross looking and the biggest poser ever in existence, he chews his food disgustingly and talk with his mouth full.

Oh my! I never realized people intentionally chew with their mouths open.

oh gosh, i didn''t notice this thread, it has to be related to my earlier post, people burping loudly in my office!!!

cindygenit, you would hate me! I don''t chew with my mouth open, but somehow the way I chew crunchy foods is always really loud. The person in the cubicle opposite me can hear me crunching away. I also swallow very loudly when I drink. I don''t know why

Cehra, I am on PS while grabbing a quick dinner and tried chewing with my mouth open. I didn''t notice any difference!
