Which is your favorite vowel, and why?
A E I O U, and sometimes Y.

My favorite is E.
It just seems the most friendly.
Maybe that's because when you say E, you smile.

Can't say one jumps out more than the others.
Where do you come up with this stuff? Too funny, Kenny

As a linguist, I have to be pedantic and chime in. A E I O U are letters which represent vowel sounds, but English has many more vowels than the five stated. My personal favourite is the one in the name "Bud"; I always have a hard time teaching my students how to pronounce it. As for the letters, I prefer E too.

A is my favorite. I used to be a perfectionist when I was a student and A was the only acceptable grade IMO. I have since loosened up quite a bit but A is still my favorite vowel. :cheeky:

I know we need them but I'm not fond of any of them  . Reason being that all the other letters have 1 sound but
when it comes to vowels that have 2 sounds (according to my humble understanding of phonics). I am on my 3rd child
trying to teach them to try a short vowel and if that doesnt sound right then try the long one...blah, blah, blah

Why couldnt they just make up another set of 5 new letters to cover the short/long versions then it would always be obvious
which sound a child should make. Learning how to read/write seems like it would have been so much more simpler. :loopy:

It is fun to try to pronounce a sentence leaving out the vowels.
Try it.

Yes, that's' one reason English is frustrating to learn.
I remember my Spanish teacher pointing this out when he said, "You'll be happy to learn, in Spanish there is only one sound per vowel."

"y" - it's just so versatile. =)

(Plus, on Wheel of Fortune it's like a free vowel! - did I just "out" myself? )
