I have two sapphire rings currently in the works. I thought best to have the process documented in their own individual threads as most likely the SMTB thread will just include both.
I found Daisy on eBay. Listed for a bit of money, but had an obo. I offered a ridiculous bid of about half her asking price and they accepted. These are the photos from the listing

Windowed to high heavens with an estimated ctw for the sapphire of 7.83- i was cautiously optimistic of my new purchase. The ctw seemed to be using diamond specs, or something, because for her reported LxW of 12.7x11.7x8.5, that seemed low.
The setting was entirely too gaudy and I “ knew” I’d hate her as soon as it came but whatever it was a purchase for the sapphire not the setting.
She came and her window was as bad as you could expect. I could drive a motor home through it.
I had decided after having it weighed (which was a debacle! as documented here that I did not want to loose that magic 10 ct mark. Jerry Newman did an amazing job. He knew exactly what I wanted. Loose the highway underpass in the middle of the stone, keep as much weight as you can. He managed to keep almost all of her face up size at 11.5*12.8 and she’s 10.39ct.

Here you can see her after the recut. When I got her back loose I noticed the yellow gold actually detracted from her sunny disposition. I decided she would go in platinum at this point.
I had toyed around with many different side stone ideas. Traps?! Hearts??? What if I used movals is that weird !?
But I ended up loving her against the stark white of some itty bitty oec diamonds I would pilfer from this brooch. They are so bright and white and about .05 each.
but.... What halo? That’s easy! I love vintage style halos with prongs for days. Example below.
Now was cad time. I will not bore you with the details on this, but I thought you might like to see the first cad sent vs the agreed upon version. There will be a line detail engraved in the shank like the photo above.
She will be for my middle right hand. I will let you know as soon as shes finished, obviously!
