The Knudsen Family Cookbook

That made me throw up a little.

Why did people in the '50s and '60s think everything would be better with sour cream or cream cheese? I mean, I like both, but seriously? Who cooks meat in sour cream for every meal? *gag*

Call me weird, but about 80% of those looked like they could taste good! Minus my disdain for seafood and corned beef, most of the other stuff looked palatable.

I've got a fever and the only prescription is more casserole!

I heard the casserole was a new concept so people went casserole crazy! LOL I heard cooking was pretty boring and basic, so jello molds were the rage! I have a friend who loves old cookbooks and collects them so I would sometimes get lost looking at recipes in them. They used a lot of butter back then too! I am not a casserole fan unless it is lasagna. hehe Davi, lol

HopeDream that is fun they put a lot of the cookbook on the internet, very entertaining!

The jello-meat thing is the worst! The 50s were big on casseroles. My friend's mom used to make a hot dog mashed potato thing called "hotdog surprise". I was surprised the first time I saw it.

Thats hilarious! I think I might have have that cookbook or one just like it. I guess I do not have a very discerning palate, well maybe for wine but thats it, love cassaroles! Being a diehard midwesterner if you pour a can of cream of anything soup over something chances are my family eats it, and if you want to make it what grandma would call "ethnic" food, add some chowmein noodles to it. Every year at easter my aunt makes what they call "army jello" that is lime jello with veggies AND fruit in it then they spread mayo on top!!! ewwwww totally disgusting. I bet the recipe is in there if you would like it :saint:
